We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma Potts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emma, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’m an actress living in Los Angeles and as many know that can be a slow build to making it a full time career so I decided to start my own business. I was trying to find something fun and different to send my friend for her birthday and couldn’t find anything in LA that was perfect so I created it! My business is called Sweet Treats Box- an online store where you can purchase themed dessert boxes filled with treats, desserts and is decorated for each theme such as birthdays, fathers day and anniversaries.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of my biggest goals has always been to move from Sydney Australia to Los Angeles and I did it! I’m coming up to year two in LA and its been quite the journey. In a way it was like starting all over again in my career. I had done a lot of work in Australia and made many connections and contacts but as soon as I moved to LA all that did not matter. The thing about living in LA is anything feels possible, so I got myself out there and I’m getting my career to where it should be and I started my own business (Sweet Treats Box), I never would have done that in Sydney. Moving to another country by myself has been an emotional rollercoaster but I wouldn’t change a thing, never give up!
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
LA is such a cool place to live so if my best friend came to visit I would have to take her to brunch at The Beverly Hills Hotel so we can dress up and be cute! Of course we would have to go on a hike, so LA of us. A fun thing I did when my friend came to visit was hiring a Mustang, putting the roof down and drive to Malibu, it was perfect. Taking a stroll down Melrose Ave and taking instagram pics in front of the awesome street art then taking a trip to Rodeo Drive. And our evenings would be filled with rooftop bars and cute outfits.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have have to say The Forward Female, its a community where women support women. They offer guidance, advice and are really there for you and your business journey.
