We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelton Wilder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelton, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
One of my biggest accomplishments in life has been my children and their relationship with one another. I am so proud of how close they are. Even though they are 2 years & 3 months apart, they are best friends. They share everything: a room, toys, matching clothes, everything! We never put them in competition with one another and make sure they consider each other allies. Whenever they would have a fight, we would make them hug, kiss, and say I love you. I think that has made the biggest impact on their close relationship. Another idea we have instilled in our children is that work is not a bad thing. There is no crying or no guilt involved when I leave for work. I make sure that work is a positive idea by saying, “Mommy is so excited she gets to go work today and do what she loves and help people!” I explain to them I get to go to work and they get to go to school and that I will see them after. They’ve seen what hard work looks like and I hope to instill a good work ethic in them.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Starting as a celebrity fashion stylist, I created the Shemie, an undergarment clothing line. I pitched the Shemie on Shark Tank in 2012 and although the sharks didn’t bite, I learned extremely valuable lessons from that experience. The biggest lesson I learned was to continue to stay “positron” through the lows of entrepreneurship. Positron is a way of life and that attitude helped me keep moving forward. Yes, I was a “Shark Tank failure,” but it did not let that stop me and I ended up raising all of the money I needed on my own through a Kickstarter campaign. After pitching to the Sharks, I realized I can do anything and now I am fearless. Overcoming that fear has helped me in my daily life and now in my Real Estate career. Now, I can pitch to potential clients on a weekly basis with confidence. At the Shelton Wilder Group, our approachability and willingness to go where our clients need us attracts our clientele. In addition to our innovative digital marketing strategies, our timeless and sophisticated branding sets us apart from other agents in the crowded Real Estate industry. What I am most proud of about my career is being able to connect my clients with their dream homes. Finding the perfect fit for their needs and seeing their smiles when I hand them the keys is what makes it all worth it! Getting to where I am today professionally did not happen overnight. It took a lot of hard work and perseverance! I would encourage my fellow entrepreneurs and business owners to keep moving forward and stay positron.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Los Angeles because there are so many amazing restaurants and activities to do! When my friends come into town, I always have a list ready for them of places to go and eat! For a healthy lunch on the water, I would suggest Malibu Farm on the pier in Malibu. There is a sit down restaurant at the beginning of the pier and more casual order-at-the-counter restaurant at the end of the pier, depending on what you have time for. I love their fresh watermelon juice! For a more formal dinner by the water, I would suggest Nobu in Malibu. Make reservations for 1 hour before the sunset to see some of the most spectacular sunset views Southern California has to offer! Another fun spot close to the water is Elephante in Santa Monica. I love their trendy decor and atmosphere. Lastly, my favorite restaurant in LA is Capo in Santa Monica. I also love giving hotel recommendations! My favorite is the Peninsula Beverly Hills. Their Afternoon Tea at The Living Room is the best in Los Angeles. I also love to go to the Beverly Hills Hotel and have brunch at the Cabana Cafe. Be sure to also check out the Gray Malin Cabana–it’s fabulous!! Last, but not least I would recommend Hotel Bel Air. The grounds are so gorgeous! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so blessed to have such an amazing support system! It is so important to surround yourself with people who are going to uplift you and encourage you! My dear friend, Amanda Cooper has been such a rock and key member of my support system. I would also like to give credit to my Business Mentor, Laura Doughty. She has been there for me since the first day of my Real Estate career. I am so thankful for both of them and all of my amazing support system! I would not be where I am today without them. And to my husband, he’s my biggest supporter & cheerleader.
