We had the good fortune of connecting with Aishia Deal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aishia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks taking in business could be the difference in the success or failure of a business. Speaking for myself I’ve never been a risk taker not in personal life so it was incredibly hard for me to roll the dice in my business life but the greater the risk the greater the reward right? Covid-19 has forced a lot of business especially Entrepreneurs to depend on Social Media, Zoom, Webex etc for meetings, conferences, sales etc. I’m grateful because I do radio and that’s something I’ve been able to do from my home as well as the Thursday group I teach and a few other things I do weekly. 2020 was all about risks, it was something business wise we’ve never seen so there was no “How To” handbook we had to figure it out along the way, I’d say I have a Black Belt in Risk Taking now lol I even have the shirt!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I always pause for a second when I’m asked “what do you do?” because truthfully I don’t fit into a box, not mentally, spiritually or professionally lol! I kind of craved a lane and made it hard for anyone to tell. me “no”. I’m a Media Personality and Radio Contributor I’m on air in anywhere between 4 to 7 markets weekly doing relationship segments, there isn’t anybody man or woman doing what I’m doing, essentially you can’s say I’m mini syndicated. I’m a Certified Domestic Violence Counselor. I facilitate a weekly social support and empowerment group for women who come to me through The Department of Children and Family Service, Family Court or by way of Shepherd’s Door Domestic Violence Resource Center. I’m a Podcast Host I have a show called “Sh*t Women Think About” (Spotify, iTunes & Goggle Play) where I unpack topic such as Cheating, Situationships, Toxic Parenting, How To Let Go & Move On just to name a few. I’m a Healthy Relationship Educator, I go into middle schools, high schools and colleges and do 60 min interactive “Healthy vs Unhealthy Relationship Workshops Let’s just say I do a lot in a day lol
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Having friends in town and trying to hit all the best spots is impossible! there’s too many! 1. Bottega Louie – DTLA is one of my favorite spots because the ambiance is almost as amazing as the Truffle Pizza, I said ALMOST! 2. Ace Hotel – DTLA is such a vibe it’s very low key the drinks are great the views are dope 3. Wally’s – Beverly Hills is one of my weekly spots, if you’re a Charcuterie lover like me Wally’s is the best spot in L.A also the socializing is great you can see anybody from Drake to your favorite soap stars and the best part about Wally’s is it’s a “if you know you know” place so it’s not a any and everybody spot. 4. Cafe Hababa- Malibu has a lot of hidden gem restaurants but Cafe Habana happens to be one of my favorite spots in SOHO NYC so imagine my excitement when they brought their amazing food and drinks to the west coast! 5. I’m a sucker for a good ole Speak Easy and there’s two great ones in L.A 1. is The Secret Barber it looks like an everyday barber shop except if you know the right people and where to push you may just find a very dope bar with a pretty healthy tapas menu 2. Glass Hookah on Melrose great Hookah great vibe and if you walk to the back and figure out which door knob turns you’ll enter yet another laid back L.A bar, there’s never too many of those.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Shoutout is to my Twitter and Instagram Family because without them behind me waiting to catch me if I fall or lose my way there’s literally no way I’d be doing what I’m doing on the high level I’m doing it. I’m aware most people would want to thank their parents, siblings, perhaps significant other even close friends and I understand why but it’s the genuine unconditional and unwavering support for me. I don’t fear much but my fear of letting my Social Media family down is what motivated me to not only stop making excuses and pushing my start date but that healthy fear motivated me to see my “Sh*t Women Think About” podcast through, finish and launch and from my podcast so many amazing opportunities have come my way. To say I love them is an understatement. This Shoutout is to the perfect strangers, I wouldn’t be here without them.
