We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenia Lara-Godfrey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I love going on to different instagrams and websites and it asks me about my business and what category I am, because I’m in multiple categories. I do event planning, custom orders, lettering, snack goodies, it’s definitely all in the art category but I “try” and do it all so it can be a one stop shop! So I think my goal is to be able to offer anything and everything as well as letting this be my main source of income so I don’t have to work a 9-5, I can work all morning, all night or not at all and not get written up for it! I want to be able to provide for my family and give my mom and family whatever they want and not have to worry about money.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently working at a school as a daycare counselor , I’ve worked as a kindergarten TA until COVID shutdown happened, I tutor. I absolutely love kids and I’m in school to become a teacher. I love being creative with them and as I’ve been in the field longer and just my experiences with kids and art, I’ve definitely pushed it A LOT more because even in kindergarten, even if they don’t know it’s self care and helping their mental Heath I do and that’s why I so push with arts and crafts and taking that break. But like I said I definitely want my business to become my main source of income and if I want to, I’ll have a “side job” that’s part time if it allows me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To be totally honest, I’m the most boring person ever. Lol it would definitely be an adventure and just drive and go wherever my car takes us. I have my exploring side every once in a while but I’m very much a homebody. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly I would NOT have started this business if it wasnt for my family & boyfriend but seriously, my mom and sister are to thank because they invested in me and bought me the supplies I needed to even start what this has become & as I’ve grown, my boyfriend has invested and bought me things to grow my business. If it wasn’t for them and consistently cheering me on to keep going when I feel like I just can’t do it anymore they encourage me to keep going and to better myself and the people who have supported me and spread my name out there , I appreciate it allll.
