We had the good fortune of connecting with April Lovett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi April, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
My business and career has taught me a lot over the last 10 years, but more than anything it has shown me how resilient I am. When the pandemic hit, I pivoted my brick and mortar business to the internet essentially on day one. I was able to keep everything running pretty smoothly and now I am building an entirely new online business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I opened my business 9 years ago, with a focus on prenatal yoga, over time it expanded well beyond that. However, since the pandemic started, I have niched down my focus once again to all things pregnancy, birth and postpartum. And for the first time in a while, it feels easier. I strongly believe that focusing on exactly who you want to serve is extremely important because you cannot serve everyone and the people that you lose are the people you were not meant to serve. My business now focuses specifically on pregnancy, birth and beyond. We provide moms with everything they need to feel supported, empowered, educated and find community. We currently offer online and in-person prenatal and postnatal yoga, childbirth education, placenta encapsulation, sound baths, moms groups and more. I am currently preparing to launch my course Unfold Motherhood which is an on-demand program for prenatal yoga geared toward non-yogi’s, that includes bite size childbirth education and weekly calls with me to ask questions and get support.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestie was visiting for the weekend, we would take a trip to Balboa and ride bikes, stop at Let it Brie in downtown Fullerton for some amazing cheese boards and wine and maybe take a visit to Downtown Disney for dinner. Then at some point during the weekend, we would for sure take a trip to the International Printing Museum in Carson! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been lucky enough to work with and be inspired by so many strong, empowered women throughout my career. But as of late, I have been really inspired by Glennon Doyle, I read Untamed about 6 months ago, I have since read it a second time and almost daily open random pages for inspiration. When my grandmother passed a few months ago, I kept repeating her quote “I can do hard things”, when I gave up the lease on my physical studio of 8 years, I kept telling myself “I can do hard things”; and I did. I survived and I am stronger for it. And now I KNOW that I can in fact do hard things.
