We had the good fortune of connecting with Cami Levin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cami, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Ultimately I became an Artist because I love bringing to life something that only exists as a feeling. Self expression is so vital to my life that it wasn’t an option to pursue anything else long term. Art creates my bliss and that’s what I want my life to be.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create original, mixed media wall art primarily with paint, clay, resin and found objects. My work depicts an enchanting vision of nature which includes symbols of love, hope, joy and stories of life. My current focus is on 3 different series of work: ‘Trees of Love’, ‘Journey of Women’, and ‘Squares of Reflection’. Each series is unique; however, all three convey the same approach: An expression of numerous and almost random seeming symbols fashioned into an orderly design. I enjoy creating work that begs the viewer to look and look and always find something new. My work has been described as Art within Art. A lot of the fun for me is taking the details to the limits, creating a piece that literally and figuratively sparkles and brings joy and wonder to my clients. My art is and has been exhibited in numerous group and solo shows, and is included in private collections around the world.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start with hiking trails like Fryman Canyon and throughout the Santa Monica mountains, would be fun to take a walk through the legendary Millennium Biltmore Hotel. If time I’d also visit the Getty, Olvera Street, Griffith observatory and the Venice canals. For Restaurants I’d go to Openaire (like eating in a greenhouse but smack in the heart of LA, casual but beautiful), Mozza pizzeria (hands down best creative pizza you’ll ever eat), and Perch (spectacular French inspired menu on the top of a high rise with views of forever). The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Many deserve credit but a few stand out to me currently: My Mom was the 1st person to encourage my artistic endeavors and also to inspire me with her own colorful and creative designs. My Husband, Gary Levin is my biggest fan and has always been supportive of my work. He and I owned and operatedan Art Gallery in Laguna Beach for 13 years where my work really took off and he then began his own artistic endeavors with fused glass @garylevinglass.
