Owen Lantz | Grammy-nominated engineer, music producer

I read that on Reddit once, at a time when I had a few projects just kind of lingering and not making any forward progress. It’s a reminder that it’s not about getting every part exact, every performance perfect, or every piece of content in 4K. What matters is the story you’re telling with what you’re creating, and making sure that your contribution is in service to the art, because anything else is just noise. Read more>>

Lia Berquist | Certified Childbirth Educator and Birth Doula

“Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.” This quote keeps applying to life – life ebbs and flows, and it reminds me that even though it’s hard right now, the next best part is right around the corner. I teach childbirth classes and I’m also a birth Doula. I remind my clients that just when labor gets so hard that you think it could destroy you, your baby will arrive. Read more>>

My favorite quote is actually a bible scripture, Matthew 19:26, which reads “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible’” (NIV). I love that it gives me hope, peace, and faith. To me, this scripture embodies the meaning of faith and continuing on despite how things look. In my life, it has sometimes felt like an uphill battle. Forging a new path is nowhere near easy. This scripture reminds me that even when things look impossible – finances, career, family, health – it is always possible with God. In many situations, I have leaned onto Him for strength, peace, and understanding. As a result, I am often blown away by His goodness. He always comes through right on time – sometimes in the midnight hour – but nevertheless, on time! This has reigned true in my career, and in life. Read more>>

One of my favorite affirmations is a line from Big Sean’s song “Why Would I Stop?” when he says “I never listen to what the odds say, why when the universe respond to what I say?” Big Sean has been one of my favorite artists growing up as I’ve gained lots of wisdom and confidence from his music. This line specifically reminds me to bet on myself and that my own belief and confidence in myself can carry me far in life. Even if the odds are stacked up against me, as long as I and the universe are for me, then I’m going to carry that with me in any situation AND make the best of it. Read more>>

Brit Zotovich | Winemaker, spearfisher, heirloom garden hobbyist

I love to be busy and always have about 20 plates spinning in the air. I find this HDR quote grounding I envision the perfect sunny day and curling sunlit wave, clear water like light-light blue jello. For me, I’m a diver, a spearfisher. I’m more interested in taking shots beneath the waves than I am in riding them. But this is a quote that any busy bee Californian can appreciate. We all work so hard, rushing from place to place. Breathe deep, unclench your jaw. As a new mom, my New Year’s resolution is to BE present with my daughter June. All she wants is to start into my eyes, babble and to be held close. Those moments are fleeting and while I cannot wait to take her into the water diving when she’s old enough to safely dive with me, I need to stare into those little wide-open eyes and really drink her in. She’s growing like a weed. Read more>>

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have” – Maya Angelou.

I love the simplicity of Ms. Angelou’s quote. I find creative ways to do the most simplest task, just to keep myself entertained. I can get bored easily. Read more>>

My life’s motto is “leave everything a little better than you found it”. Whether in business, relationships, or every day interactions, there is importance in being mindful of the energy we carry and leave behind as we move through life. If I am positive influence in any way then, in return, I hope to inspire the next person to show up as their best self as they move forward, too. Read more>>

Michael Guedel | Executive Director & Co-founder of Resilient Agency

“The reward of life you seek is found in the journey and not the destination.” This is a quote that I happened to read when I needed it most in my life. That time in my life was a particularly difficult for me as I have faced multiple set backs in my professional and personal life due to situations that were both in my control and out of my control. The difficulty of it led me to analyze my life and the decisions I had made in pursuit of something meaningful, in which effort, discipline, and hard work were applied in search for the said meaning, but yet saw no fruits of my labor. I became doubtful, weak, and disengaged from life and the responsibilities I was supposed to uphold and felt I could not move forward without hope. As I read this quote I believe that it spoke directly to my spirit as it was teaching me a lesson about life that restored faith in myself. The lesson that the quote taught me is that life is a gift that has been given to me to be appreciated and that the search of something meaningful was already given to me through life. The reward is the chance we have to experience life, and is internalized through the success, achievements, failures, marriages, divorces, the birth of family members, the death of family members, betrayal, envy, heartbreak, love, joy peace, which are all apart of the reward in The journey of life. I will never arrive at my destination, because I am already here. Read more>>

Josh LaCount | Director, Screenwriter, Actor, Filmmaker

It may sound cliche for me to use this as one of my fav quotes, but it’s true. Rocky Balboa said, “It ain’t about how hard you can hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward.” To me, this means that if I fall, it’s okay, as long as I pick myself up, learn from the experience, and keep pressing on, keep moving forward—trying again and again. If you truly believe in yourself and what you’re setting out to accomplish, and hold tight to that philosophy, anything is possible. Read more>>

Dustin Kott | Custom motorcycle builder

I really appreciate an excerpt from the poem “IF” by Rudyard Kipling: “If you can fill the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds worth of distance run”. I think this excerpt resonates with me because there is nothing more useful than tenacity in the midst of struggle. When you break down a minute into mere passing moments, in times of trial, ask yourself if you can continue on for just one more second the unforgiving minute soon dissipates. Read more>>
