We had the good fortune of connecting with Efrain Sahagun and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Efrain, how do you think about risk?
Risk is one of my biggest reasons why I’ve been successful in my creative career. To elaborate, 4 years ago I used to be a server at a movie theater. The pay was great and I was very comfortable at what I was doing but that wasn’t my passion and I just didn’t see myself working there in 5 years. What I truly wanted to do was photography. So the next day I handed in my 2 weeks without any other job lined up and planned on doing freelance for the unforeseen future. I was pretty scared but I knew I made the right decision. After 2 weeks of doing freelance I found my full time photography job that I have right now. Knowing I could’ve been working at my server job to this day makes me so glad that I risked everything for my passion.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My path to get where I am today was very unique from other artists. It all began when I was playing college soccer and into my second season I got injured pretty badly. While I was on crutches I found a camera and instantly fell in love with the whole aspect of it. That was 4 years ago and to this day I still have the passion in me and don’t feel it will ever burn out. Id love the world to know that I am a creative storyteller at heart, i’m an expert in crafting innovative and engaging content for the digital landscape. My powerful imagery, relentless dedication and passion to create have built a loyal following of photographers and travel enthusiast around the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I live in thousand oaks, there’s not much to do here so I would instantly go to Malibu and go to get some mimosas at Malibu farms and then spend the day traversing to my favorite beaches like Point Dume, El matador, Leo Carrillo and many more. Also a great place to chill out if needed is my favorite coffee shop Five07.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Some people that inspired my work to get where I am are photographers like @ravivora and @samuelelkins
