We had the good fortune of connecting with Marton Veress and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marton, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always wanted to play the drums since I was a child, however my parents signed me up for piano lessons first. When I got to high school, I had this itching feel again, that I should really play the drums. I believe that I found my path through this instrument and it changed my whole life ever since I started playing. Playing drums is a way of self expression and its the main motivation behind my journey in life. I don’t look at drums as just an instrument: it teaches me life, constantly forms my personality and makes me a better human. I met some outstanding, very valuable people, heard stories and experienced things which made me to look at the world through a different lens. If I wouldn’t play drums, I would be a complete different person.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional drummer born and raised in Budapest, Hungary. After gaining national recognition by playing in one of Hungary’s leading metal band, Pokolgep I decided to expand my career internationally and move to New York where I started to play in the extreme metal band Armageddon lead by the ex-Arch Enemy guitarist Chris Amott. After the band stopped working, I moved my base to Los Angeles, the other capital of entertainment. After 2 years living in LA, I became the drummer of the legendary rock band, Orgy and also started playing with Davey Suicide and tour the nation by playing sold out shows with both bands. Getting to this stage of my career wasn’t easy, it required a tremendous amount of hard work, dedication, discipline and sacrifice. I am very lucky to have a supportive family behind me, who helped me in the early stages of my career. I believe that you can set your mind to anything and with a positive attitude and hard work you can reach your dreams.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I haven’t been to all the cool places in LA yet, but for sure there are some bars and locations I really enjoyed and would recommend! I wouldn’t like to mention the cliche/touristy spots in LA, but visiting the beaches are always fun. I used to be a skater so for me personally when I rented a longboard on Venice beach where skateboarding was invented was a very memorable moment. The Getty Museum is a fun and free place to go to, the view is breathtaking up there. Thinking about bars, Bar Sinister is a very interesting place to visit, it has the Matrix vibe where Neo followed the girl with the white rabbit tattoo. You can’t really find places like that where I am from. I always bump into some of my friends at St.Felix or the Velvet Margherita on Cahuenga Boulevard. One of my personal favourite bar would be Mama’s Shelter in Hollywood which has a really cool rooftop.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I moved to Los Angeles in 2017 and managed to be part of some of the leading rock bands of the scene in 3 years and play sold out shows all over the US. This would not be possible without the support of my family, so I would like to give the biggest and first shout out to them. I would like to thank all my friends both at home and in the US, who supported me and helped me in any way to move forward and keep pushing towards my dreams. And last but not least I would like to thank all the bands and musicians who believed in my craft and appreciated my hard work in their band! I would like to highlight Jay Gordon (Orgy), Davey Suicide, Ryan Seaman, Phil Adams (Assuming We Survive), Jake Pitts (Black Veil Brides) and Chris Amott (Arch Enemy).
