Meet 14/48 Hollywood | The World’s Quickest Theatre Festival!

We had the good fortune of connecting with 14/48 Hollywood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi 14/48 Hollywood, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
14/48: The World’s Quickest Theatre Festival originated in Seattle, WA in 1997. A portion of our producers and greater artistic community have participated in Seattle’s 14/48 festival for many years! We wanted to bring the festival to Los Angeles to strengthen the artistic community through 14/48’s emphasis on collaboration and creativity.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
14/48 Hollywood is a two-day theatre festival. In the span of 48 hours, 14 new plays are written, cast, directed, rehearsed, scored, designed, & premiered. The festival kicks off the night before with the selection of a randomly drawn theme, finishing the sentence, “I would like to see seven plays about _______.” With the help of our Invitations Committee, 14/48 Hollywood brings together an exceedingly talented group of writers, directors, musicians, designers, and actors to create groundbreaking art. Our goal is to have 80% rookie and 20% veteran participants each year, to expand our artistic community. Past participants are encouraged to submit with each festival and by submitting in a different category, they get to be a rookie all over again.
This year’s festival dates are November 3 and 4, with two performances in the evening at 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale on October 6 and are pay-what-you-can to keep our festival accessible to any and all audience members.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Not to be biased, but we would 100% take friends to this year’s 14/48 Hollywood, on November 3 & 4 at 7:00 p.m. and/or 9:30 p.m. We would also definitely take them to a matinee at the Broadwater Theater, visit The Plunge Bar for a fun beverage, or if they’re feeling hungry, Doomie’s for a vegan chile relleno.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This company would not work without all the folks involved – our Producing Committee, Invitations Committee, volunteers, artists, and audience members! We are so grateful to be a part of such an amazing and kind artistic community!
