We had the good fortune of connecting with A. Mariah Caruthers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi A. Mariah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For about three years, I experienced a period of declining health and was officially diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2017. I knew that I could no longer work in a physical workplace, so I had to officially quit the corporate career path.
I reconnected with what brought me joy—writing and school. On my path towards healing, I received my MFA in Creative Writing in 2018. I compiled and published my first book of poetry, “Reflections of a Twenty Something”.
After that, I made a conscious effort to use my personal experience as my platform—Mariah’s Got Nerve. I felt the confidence that I never had. I literally have my hands in several opportunities from creating a clothing brand to becoming a freelance social media manager!
The point of everything I do is to know that “your limitations will become your greatest source of power.” I can do anything despite the odds against me.
What should our readers know about your business?
Professionally, I am a social media manager.
I am the author of “Reflections of a Twenty Something”.
I definitely overcame many struggles. From health issue to depression and anxiety. For years, I experienced my lowest lows.
I was able to overcome many of my struggles by changing my diet and exercise regime. I removed myself from toxic energy and environments, and I took control over the decisions of my life!
I am loving and accepting of all people. My goal is to especially help those who suffer from debilitating diseases find their way and purpose! I want people to be able to have financial stability and ultimately— peace.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m definitely a foodie, so eating tours in Atlanta are a must! I love the island vibe, so a party is always going on in the city or the east side! I’m pretty chill for the most part! We can go to the High Museum or go to the Botanical Gardens!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
