We had the good fortune of connecting with A Monet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi A, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue a creative career because I believe that with the gift that was given to me, I can’t confine it to an office job. There’s so much more that I can do. I am a graphic designer and I enjoy bringing people’s ideas to life. I didn’t want my to be in this cycle of wakeup, work, home, bed, and do it again. I wanted to try different things and explore my creativity.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a self taught graphic designer. I started designing simple graphics for my personal social media right out of high school. My goal was to post quotes to encourage others, but make it pretty. I had no clue that it was considered graphic designing until my uncle told me. Ever since then, I’ve been designing and perfecting my craft. When I design, I want to bring my clients’ and my ideas to life. I want to make their dream and/or vision a reality.

To get into business professionally took consistency and commitment. I wasn’t ready at first, but now I am fully invested. The reason being is because I understand that my gift isn’t just for me. I was given the gift of designing to help others who may not have the time or talent to do what I do.

I’ve wanted to give up multiple times, but after receiving so many great reviews and seeing my work in places I couldn’t even imagine, I knew I had to keep going.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmmm, what to do in a week in LA. I mean, this is so typical but the first place we would go is the beach. It’s the most relaxing place to me. Just hearing the waves, watching the sunset….I mean it doesn’t get any better than it. (I’m bias though)

Next, I say we would go to Downtown LA or Hollywood. Everyone wants to party and meet celebs right? And plus, it’s always good food. Can’t go wrong with street tacos or street dogs.

We would have to go to a comedy show. Oh my goodness, I love to laugh. We would have a good time, depending on who will be there.

I love Mexican food, so Javier’s it is. It’s such a good restaurant

That’s all I could think of right now.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, there are so many special people who have encouraged me and been by my side. Just to narrow it down, there are 3 people who I appreciate so much. First and foremost, it’s my Mother. She’s been there every step of the way. I’ve watched her run multiples businesses and it has blown my mind. Any chance she gets, she always shares information with me so I can run a successful business. I’m also her graphic designer for her businesses, which I love. Now, I can’t forget my uncle who has been a graphic designer for 20+ years. He’s taught me so many tips and tricks. I didn’t even know I had the desire to design until I talked to him about it.

Lastly, but not least are my Pastors. There were times when moving into the next thing was so uncomfortable, but they pushed me to come outside of my comfort zone. They gave me opportunities to make book covers, books, and all kinds of graphics for their ministries and business.

I appreciate them very much, and of course there are so many others that I can say thank you to.
