We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Van Cleave & Marcus Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aaron, Marcus, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After years of working in the entertainment industry and experiencing the challenges of success, we wanted to have the freedom to guide our own projects and develop a platform for creative artists to network and share their stories.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Indie LA was Co-Founded in January 2023 by Aaron Van Cleave & Marcus Johnson.

We met back in 2016 while performing abroad and bonded over our individual creative passions, music, & film. Both of us are actively pursing careers in the music & film industry, and we decided to combine our expertise – and Indie LA was born. The entertainment industry can be unforgiving at times, and not everyone finds easy success. Indie LA is designed to be a platform to produce, promote, and help launch emerging talent, but above all, it is a creative community hub for independent artists to network & collaborate.

One of the biggest challenges we’ve found individually is how difficult it can be trying to accomplish everything on your own, creatively, financially, and even mentally. We both have a huge respect for the creative/production process and realized how important collaboration is in this industry.

Our goal as a company is to help other artists find the connections they need to become successful and provide a foundational network of local support.

Moving forward we plan to become a full service production company building lasting relationships with artists while always keeping their best interests in mind.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love Studio City for eats, Little Tokyo for shopping and food. The 3rd street promenade for beach/ocean views, the melrose arts district for shopping, street art, and the grove for movies, and farmers market.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to give a huge shoutout to all the artists who have donated their time to be apart of this project.
