We had the good fortune of connecting with Abrieel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abrieel, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My creative journey began at a young age when I discovered my passion for singing, songwriting, and design. As I grew, I honed my skills and made the conscious decision to pursue multiple creative paths, including professional modeling, music artistry, and various other projects. I find the greatest peace when I’m engaged in the act of creation, whether it’s through songwriting, modeling, creative direction, graphic design, website development, or event planning—and now, launching my own marketing agency.

Being a full-time creative allows me to set my own schedule while helping others elevate their personal brands. For a long time, I felt embarrassed by my diverse interests, but I’ve come to realize that my multifaceted talents are a gift. They enable me to succeed while also giving back to others.

However, embracing a creative lifestyle comes with its challenges. There are moments when I feel uninspired or scattered, and finding a balance is essential. Yet, I believe that each experience adds to my growth as an artist, allowing me to continue creating and inspiring others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am incredibly proud of my journey as a creative and my remarkable comeback after grappling with mental health challenges since 2017. For a long time, I feared that my struggles would define me, especially after experiencing significant setbacks that affected my motor skills and strength. However, it was through creativity that I rediscovered myself, emerging not just as I was before, but as an even better version of me.

My close friends and family are familiar with my story, which includes my past battles with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Over the years, I faced many obstacles that hindered my ability to create music and express myself, which often left me feeling disheartened. Yet, it was the unwavering support of my loved ones and my faith in God that empowered me to persevere. Today, I stand at a point in my career where I can create fearlessly and unapologetically.

What I want the world to know about my testimony is that being different doesn’t have to define you negatively. I embrace my mental health journey and seize every opportunity to share my story, hoping to inspire others and instill hope in those who may feel lost. It’s crucial to change the narrative surrounding mental health and to challenge the stigma that still exists. Many extraordinary individuals are breaking barriers in this space, and I want to be one of those voices that encourages others.

The struggles I faced could happen to anyone at any point in their life, but the key is to keep fighting. This perseverance is what enriches my music and songwriting, allowing me to weave stories of overcoming adversity. I believe that my experiences make me a stronger artist, one who can truly connect with others through the power of storytelling.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, I would take her to all the creative and vibrant parts of the city where artists and innovators thrive. We’d explore the art district, Hollywood, Sunset Boulevard, and Melrose, as well as South Los Angeles, where small business owners, music venues, and fantastic restaurants abound. One of the things I adore about Los Angeles is its culture; as a California girl, I’ve always dreamed of living in LA. The cultural scene here is truly unique.

I love visiting the fashion district to browse the wholesale vendors, and I’d make a stop at Hilltop in DTLA for some amazing coffee. We could check out a new rooftop restaurant like Mama Shelter, enjoying great music and vibes, or relax at a Black-owned business called Somerville in Inglewood. Plus, we’d hunt for gems at vinyl stores in Sherman Oaks, like Freakbeat Records. There’s so much to do here, and I’m still discovering new businesses and experiences all the time!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a heartfelt shout-out to Donye Taylor, a brilliant creative philosopher and marketing consultant. Her journey as a multidisciplinary artist has genuinely inspired me to embrace my own purpose and fully own the diverse ideas and skills that define who I am. Donye’s e-books and interviews have been invaluable resources, helping me discover how to achieve balance as a creative “it girl” who aspires to pursue numerous passions with ease. Her resilience and determination motivate me to keep pushing myself toward becoming a successful creative and helping other businesses and artists share their unique brand stories. So Thank you, Donye, for inspiring so many of us!
