Meet Adam Hayden | DJ Mean Mr. Mustard (Soul Fire Funk Club)

We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Hayden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adam, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The opportunity to share my love of music and records. DJing your own night allows you to better understand how to properly run an event.

What should our readers know about your business?
Our night is one of only a few left in Los Angeles where folks can still hear original Funk and Soul classics and rarities. We pride ourselves on playing strictly 45s.
Persistence, the love of keeping people dancing and the magic that is returned from that energy has kept me going through the years. It has been far from easy especially during a time when less and less people are interested in this sound.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start with breakfast at HOME restaurant in Los Feliz. Followed by a walk in Griffith Park along the trail to the top of the mountain. Beautiful views and a visit to James Deans bust. After we would make our way to Amoeba records in Hollywood then to Freakbeat records in Sherman Oaks for some digging. For lunch..my favorite all time place to eat is Tony’s Mexican grill also in Sherman Oaks. After that, a drive through Laurel Canyon taking Mulholland Drive to Sunset Blvd to PCH. Once on PCH, there is a beach near Topanga Cyn where we would relax. A perfect day. Some other fun things to do at night would be to see a movie at Hollywood Forever Cemetery or drinks and dinner at Yamashiro.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Miles Tackett founder of Funky Sole club, without him none of this would have been possible. I would also like to shout out two of my closest friends Terry Robinson (DJ Hymnal) and Darryl Jackson (Mixmaster Wolf) who host a monthly show on Dublab.com every third Friday from 4-6pm. Last but not least, another close friend and fellow DJ Connie Price aka Dan Ubick who has been supporting my events since the very beginning.
