We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam J. Eros and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adam J., we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk has always played a major role in the successes of my different business ventures. It’s also been a part of my failures. But learning what doesn’t work is just as valuable, if not even more so, as learning what does work. It’s the failures that teach us how to navigate a similar problem or issue in the future, and that experience is what gains you trust and confidence from your piers and potential partners.

I have the type of personality that really enjoys a sense of adventure and mystery. Not everyone enjoys jumping into something that has a potential to fail. To me it’s thrilling! You can calculate the level of risk, but it still requires letting go of some control to truly feel that sense of unknown. The risk becomes manageable if you put your heart and soul into the project. If it means something to you, even a failure can be a success. Sounds paradoxical, but it’s that exploration that unearths new possibilities. I’ve had projects that failed, but along the way I found an opportunity that I never would have found if I hadn’t taken that initial risk.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Music is my first passion. Always has been. I’ve been fortunate to grow up in a musical home and learn piano at a young age. I took to it quickly and from there a series of events brought me to places that I could never have imagined. Of course, in order to get there I had to work my ass off. I’ve got a penchant for staying out late to celebrate, but when it came to my craft I never took it for granted. I knew my work ethic needed to be top notch if I was going to rise above the phenomenal talent around me. It took dedication and a ‘choice’ – I don’t like the word ‘sacrifice’ – to focus on what I knew I wanted to be. It was hard work, it still is. But the value is immense, and incredible personal.

From there I prepared for every opportunity musically I could get. Always ready for a new challenge and hopefully making some money at it too. I accompanied choirs, singers, and instrumentalists – solo’d in front of orchestras, arranged songs for all types of ensembles, took masterclasses in jazz and composition for film – started a band and toured the country – found a job at a dueling piano bar and worked my way up to Entertainment Manager – wrote music for cartoons, advertising, and solo piano – moved to a farm with my wife to write music full time – started a club in Quebec City….and it just hasn’t stopped.

I’m very proud of the music I’ve created and the relationships I’ve made with fellow artists and creators. I’m especially proud of the co-writing relationship I share with Whitney Shay and the success we’ve had, including being #1 on Billboard and the various awards we’ve won. I’m also incredible proud of the music club/venue I helped start outside of Quebec City with dear friends and partners Bob Bissonnette and Marie-Pierre Simard. The myriad of music opportunities I worked at prepared me perfectly for my current role as Music Producer for VeeFriends, an IP brand of characters from Gary Vaynerchuk.

In addition to the music life, my wife and I are creating a brand from our farm, ‘Ranch Eros’, to include a eucalyptus focused aromatherapy line of oil, sprays, candles, lotions, and floral arrangements.

It’s been a wild journey. And even though it seems like there isn’t time for sleep or rest, I’ve learned that one of the most important lessons in life is know how to take a break. Take time to look around and feel the moment. Show gratitude to everything around you. I find my best inspiration when I take a step away from what I’ve been wrapped up in and just remind myself of how incredible it is to just be alive. I’ve been truly lucky to get to do something I love with my life, and I think what I’m most grateful for is the joy I get to bring people through music.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Gotta have a little adventure right? LA has a ton of it. If I had a friend coming in we’d be hitting jazz joints like Sam First Bar, The Baked Potato, Vibrato – with it’s perfect sound…and dozens of others. The possibility of hitting a show in the summer at the Hollywood Bowl satisfies the tourist and the local. And you never know who will be at the Forum or the Comedy Store. Of course I’m thinking of music first.

Griffith Park has some great trails and if the day is right it’s a perfect choice. If it’s a little on the hot side then it’s a trip to the beach. Venice if my friend is feeling that 60’s throwback vibe, or Manhattan to Redondo for something a little less intense.

Food? Gotta start with Mexican. SOOO GOOD! Taco Maria – although it’s a little south it’s worth the drive. Something a little Oaxacan at Guelaguetza – and if we’re lucky a family will be having a huge party. So many Mexican places in LA to choose from that are fantastic.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve got a few shoutouts that are more than necessary. First and foremost my wife, Stephanie. The love, humor, support, and passion she brings every moment is so inspiring. She is her own beacon of strength and kindness that makes anyone around her into a better person. My parents have been unwavering in their support. Even in moments of uncertainty and doubt. I’m beyond grateful and very fortunate to have them as the foundation for who I am.
I’ve been inspired by so many people, artists, writers, composers, etc… Here’s a small list of a few that stick out: Jerry Singleton USN, “Henderson the Rain King” – Saul Bellow, Dr. Angela Yeung, Stephen Sturk, Leontine Eros, Epictetus, John Williams, Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Roger Hunt, Kevin Clover, Bob Bissonnette, Marie-Pierre Simard, Christopher Hitchens, and so many many more.
