Meet Addie Schnirel | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Addie Schnirel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Addie, what are you inspired by?
I am driven by a desire to celebrate the beauty of the world – in its natural marvels and the artistic and intellectual expressions of humanity. My passion lends itself to supporting small businesses, artists, and the community at large. I want to use my lens to empower fellow enthusiasts to chase their passions, embrace the extraordinary, and to make the world a better place. I am a hopeless nostalgic, so I am drawn by allure of the past, while also embracing the unconventional and looking for authenticity.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve spent the last year plus as the primary photographer for The Martlet Tattoo in Highland Park. That’s been a great experience, and I am wrapping that up by helping them update their website. I also volunteer my time for Foster Army Animal Rescue & Thrift Store, both in taking pictures for social media and adoptions, but also testing cameras that get donated. All camera sales go to supporting saving animals!
Other clients I have in the queue are senior portraits, engagement photo shoots, classic car shoots, and a wedding. After the wedding, I will be focusing my attention on studio portraits with medium format film, using my Mamiya RB67 which is a very old school studio portrait camera. I am also in the process of setting up my first on demand print shop, so stay tuned for that!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Fueled by my love of photography and vintage vibes, our journey would take us through iconic snapshots of LA with a sprinkling of the best and most tantalizing flavors of food & drink.
I love Venice Beach for its sun-soaked street scenes. We could walk, skate, or bike our way down the beach before meandering into Santa Monica for something to eat. There is a strip of Montana Avenue that has some great spots including Forma Restaurant & Cheese Bar which has a crazy cheese menu! We could top off the day with a movie at the historic Aero Theater. There are also cute boutiques and Erin McKenna’s amazing gluten-free vegan bakery.
For an offbeat adventure, we’d go to Highland Park, home to my favorite Martlet Tattoo and a haven of boutiques and vintage gems. Sports and wings are great at The Greyhound Bar & Grill, Burger Lords amazes with gluten-free and vegan offerings, Villas Tacos lives up to its hype, and Otoño presents visual and culinary delight. To grab some wine for home, we’d stop by Highland Park Wine for their sublime selection. We could also make it a night out with a meal and cocktails on the balcony of Checker Hall and show at the neighboring Lodge Room.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Several photographers have really inspired and helped me along the way: Luci Valentine, Angel Rameriz, Oscar Segura, Juan Sostre, Reggie Ballesteros, Adrian Aghaie to name a few. Additionally, I would like to thank Bryce Oprandi of the Martlet Tattoo for bringing me on board to document his amazing shop. The most important thank you is to my husband who always supports me in following my dreams!
