We had the good fortune of connecting with Adnan Hussain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adnan, what are you inspired by?
Inspiration comes in all forms. The work of other artists is certainly inspiring. The lived experience of people with far less means and unshakable integrity is another constant source of inspiration. When I feel down on life or the brutality of the world, I need only look to those bearing the brunt of those challenges who still find within them the resilience to persevere for a better existence. That keeps me in check and inspires me to keep trying.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is based around storytelling which comes from an interest in people. Working in the animation industry has taught me a great deal about how films are put together, but working with people around the world, and learning about culture and human rights work is what compels me to tell stories. In professional terms, my career has come from working hard and trying to stay ahead of what is interesting and challenging within the ever changing animation and visual effects world. Building relationships with people with integrity and genuine care has been key to finding and holding on to opportunities. My brand in Mad Guru is about bringing together collaboration with generations old traditions with modern technology to create something new.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles is such a diverse and spread out city, where I feel there is something for everyone. There is community art in murals around downtown, or museum collections. We have incredible musicians and thinkers from around the world who come here to share their abilities. There are breathtaking hikes in nature from beaches, to forests, mountains and deserts. For a bite to eat, there are so many cultural parts of town, whether neighborhoods with food from specific parts of the world or interesting fusions that represent the combined identities of so many of us, it all really depends on what you enjoy.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to all the carriers of generations old artistic traditions, that have inspired and collaborated with me, the friends and family who are the base upon which I dare to build and especially my wonderful wife and child.
