We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrian Izanhour and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adrian, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I first started my business, I believed that being busy all the time was the key to success. I often found myself working late into the night, with little regard for boundaries around my time or mental space. I thought that constant work was the best approach, but over time, I realized that establishing boundaries is essential for maintaining both productivity and well-being.

Around 2022-2023, I made a conscious decision to approach my life and work with a mindset similar to that of a vacation. This shift allowed me to enjoy my time more fully, especially as I began traveling to different cities and counties within California. To make these trips more engaging, I started exploring local favorites—whether it was the best margarita, Bloody Mary, or other regional specialties.

This approach not only made my travels more enjoyable but also enhanced my overall work experience. By integrating these small adventures into my routine, I found a better balance between working long hours and truly appreciating the moments I was experiencing. It has been a rewarding journey toward maintaining a healthier, more thoughtful work-life balance.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I own an interior design boutique-style business. My background is in sculpture; I studied as a sculptor, and I approach every project as if I am creating a new piece of art. This artistic foundation influences my work, and I believe it sets me apart in the industry.

What truly makes my business unique is my use of bold colors and the fact that each project is entirely different from the last. When I meet with a client, I take the time to deeply understand what they are trying to express or communicate through their space—whether it’s their home or their business. I am a people person, and I genuinely enjoy hearing their stories. My goal is to tell their story through the design of their environment, creating spaces that resonate with their personality and vision.

Over the years, one of the biggest challenges has been finding projects that align with my artistic style and vision. However, my passion for what I do and my creative energy keep me motivated. I’ve learned the importance of truly listening to my clients—understanding their needs, desires, and underlying messages—to ensure I deliver the best possible result.

The lessons I’ve gained along the way include the importance of active listening and clear communication. By paying close attention to my clients’ words and intentions, I am able to create spaces that are not only beautiful but meaningful. I want the world to know that my work is driven by creativity, authenticity, and a deep desire to bring people’s stories to life through design.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles is full of amazing spots, and I love sharing my favorite places with visitors. One place I highly recommend is Damn, I Miss Paris, a vibrant hotspot known for its great drinks, fantastic food, and lively music. You can dance, sing, and enjoy the atmosphere—it’s one of the newest and hottest spots in the city.

Next door, there’s Chulita, famous for its incredible fish tacos—they’re fresh, flavorful, and simply amazing. They also serve a variety of margaritas, which I love—especially spicy margaritas. I often take friends there on a separate night or even on the same night to keep the fun going.

On the same street, you’ll find Delicious Pizza, a lively place with a bar, restaurant, and a club. On Friday and Saturday nights, you might find the place bustling with people spilling out onto the street. It’s a fantastic spot to enjoy great music, pizza, and good company late into the night—sometimes until 1 a.m.

For a unique after-hours experience, I recommend visiting the spot in Little Ethiopia where you can enjoy hookah and listen to current hip-hop and Afrobeat music until 4 a.m. It’s a vibrant, energetic scene that’s perfect for late-night fun.

Another must-visit is The Well in Hollywood on Sunset Boulevard. It’s a great place to enjoy live music, delicious food, strong drinks, and a lively atmosphere on a Friday or Saturday night.

If my friends are up for a more relaxed vibe, I’d take them to Dada Bar in Silverlake, known for its great food, drinks, and friendly crowd. It’s a perfect spot for good conversation and good times.

And of course, no visit to Los Angeles would be complete without a trip to Venice Beach—the iconic boardwalk with its vibrant energy, street performers, shops, and beautiful ocean views.

Finally, for a laid-back morning, I’d suggest heading to Highly Likely for fresh food, excellent coffee, and a relaxed vibe to start the day.

Los Angeles truly has something for everyone, and I love showing visitors the diverse and exciting experiences this city offers.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are countless individuals who have supported and inspired me along my journey, making it difficult to mention everyone. However, I would like to highlight a few who have had a particularly meaningful impact.

First, I want to thank Alicia Lamar, an interior designer. I initially worked with her in various roles—from handyman and painter to decorative painter and driver. She has been a true inspiration, encouraging my creativity and giving me the confidence to pursue my own path and showcase my talents.

I also want to acknowledge my grandmother, Tania Izanhour, who was the first woman sign painter in Los Angeles. She was a remarkably creative person—an illustrator and an artist—whose passion and dedication continue to inspire me.

Additionally, my Uncle Leonard played a significant role in shaping my work ethic. He demonstrated what it means to be dedicated to your craft, always punctual, committed, and giving your best effort, regardless of the time.

Finally, I am incredibly grateful for my friends who have constantly encouraged my talent. Khadijah Karim, in particular, helped me secure six celebrity jobs at one point, and I will always be thankful for her support and belief in me.

To all of these incredible people and many others, I am deeply grateful for your encouragement, mentorship, and love. Your support has been instrumental in my journey, and I am honored to acknowledge you.
