Meet Adriana Adler | Actress & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Adriana Adler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adriana, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career because acting was the one thing in my life that I was genuinely passionate about. It was the only career I could see myself doing every day for the rest of my life and never getting tired of. My main draw toward acting was the ability it has of connecting with people and inspiring them in ways that no other medium can. My hope is that I can one day be that source of inspiration for others through my work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started acting when I was in 7th grade when my best friend at the time asked me to join the drama club with her, and I’ve been acting ever since. I did theater in high school and then went on to get a degree in Theater at the California Lutheran University, along with my degree in Math. Yes, I am also a nerd who tutors Math for a living. My senior year of college I met my Meisner teacher Markus Flanagan who studied directly under Sanford Meisner. I took a total of 6 years with him, learning the proper 2 year process of learning the Meisner Technique. The following years I spent in his Master Class, where we did scenes, audition techniques, and improv among other things. My last year in his class (right before Covid hit) I met my awesome friend Natasha. Markus called us as becoming best friends from the beginning and he was right! I am currently working on a new web-series with Natasha and our other awesome friend Kaye. It is going to be a series of comedic skits. I love dramatic acting too, but I’ve always had a love for comedy. My stupid sense of humor and good comedic timing always bring something fun to the table. We’ve already filmed a couple episodes and are currently working on editing them together. We are hoping to be posting them to YouTube shortly! As far as challenges go, honestly the biggest one is fighting the urge to give up. Acting is so hard to break into and I’ve been at it for over 7 years now. Just when you think you have a toe in the door (no I’ve never had a whole foot), it gets slammed shut. If it wasn’t for my support system I would have given up long ago. Natasha, Kaye, and I take turns of wanting to give up and talking each other into staying in the acting pursuit. It’s been hard to see close friends of mine succeed in their non-creative career choices. While others are buying homes and getting married, I’m sharing a small apartment with my brother and our adorable kitten. Although, I just have to remind myself that I am probably happier than most because I am actually pursuing my dream. And at the end of the day, if I don’t succeed, at least I will never have to live with the regret of not going for it. I feel blessed for all of the friends I’ve made along the way and the opportunities that I have been given. I thank God every day for what I’ve been given and I wouldn’t change it. Don’t get me wrong, I have my bouts of depression and my bad days, but I’m surrounded by loving and caring friends and family that believe in me. I just hope that I can return the favor and love and encourage all of my friends and family in the same way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well my favorite place in the world is the beach, so I would take them to Zuma Beach in Malibu if we wanted to just tan and go in the water. If we wanted to explore, I would go further down PCH to Leo Carrillo where there are a bunch of tide pools. Then I would take them down to Neptune’s Net for some great seafood by the beach! I live in Simi Valley, which is surrounded by beautiful mountains, so it’s the perfect place for hiking. I love the outdoors so I would definitely hike a few different trails a couple days out of the week. One of my favorite trails in Simi is White Face. It takes you to the top of White Face mountain where there’s a beautiful grassy area with trees. It’s a more challenging hike and takes a few hours, so I would reward us with In-N-Out after. I also love animals, so I would take a trip down to the LA zoo and then eat at one of the fun sushi places out there. One of my favorite affordable places to go is the Griffith Observatory (since it’s free!). I always try to make a trip there once a year, especially when I have a friend visiting who’s never been there. I would definitely recommend bringing a picnic lunch or dinner to enjoy on the beautiful grassy area. At the end of the week I would probably just go back to the beach since I love it so much!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom, Michelle Daniel, my amazing friend Natasha Bickle, and my boyfriend Cody Urquhart. Yes I know it’s a lot, but it takes a huge support system to pursue an artistic career! My mom is an artist; she’s a painter who mainly does portraits of people and animals. She is amazingly talented and has always been supportive of me in my artistic endeavors. I’ve learned a lot from her and the example she’s set in the amount of passion and perseverance it takes to make your way in an extremely competitive career choice. My friend Natasha is my actor friend who inspires me all the time with her fun and clever ideas for scenes. I love that I have her to work with and bounce ideas off of. I’ve gotten some of my best work through acting alongside her. And lastly, my amazing boyfriend Cody, who is always there to encourage me through the good and bad times. He never lets me give up and helps me find joy in the struggle. He is the first one ready to help me film my auditions, no matter what time of day or night. He’s my biggest fan and I feel so blessed to have a boyfriend who understands my artistic mindset (he’s also an artist).
