We had the good fortune of connecting with Adriana Natale and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adriana, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
From the earliest I can remember, I was directing plays in my living room with my cousins and making stop-motion movies with my stuffed animals. I continued following my joy, participating in theater from middle school through college, and never stopped. Telling stories is what I’m most passionate about and brings me so much satisfaction.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of my recent short film – The Coven. It was my first attempt at crowdfunding, and producing, and was my first script to be filmed. It’s about an LA transplant who is desperate to become best friends with her new eccentric roommates, who happen to be witches. Think The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt meets What We Do in the Shadows, but with witches. I am incredibly happy with the final project. It’s a combination of my favorite things and something I would want to watch, and it seems like others agree as it has been nominated six times, with five wins from eight festivals.

It wasn’t easy. I had a lot of self-doubt, and delays, oh… and I was four months pregnant when we filmed. But thankfully, I had a great network of support and mentors that helped me along the way.

The biggest lesson I learned was to jump in. Getting started can be the scariest part. Creating a film seems daunting and there are so many unknowns, but everyone feels like that when they are just beginning. The key is to take the first steps, and then keep going. Even if it’s a little at a time, or restart if you took a break. If you stay persistent you will succeed. And it doesn’t hurt to find talented people to help you too!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love California beaches. The way you can see the mountains while walking along the water. It may be touristy, but I’d take them walking (or roller-skating in true Barbie fashion) along the beach path from Venice to the iconic Santa Monica Pier. Then we’d stop for the best city views at The Rooftop by JG at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills for a bougie sunset dinner. The food and drinks are top notch and did I mention the sunset views? Incredible. Since I’m all about the views, my next stop would be hiking up to Griffith Park- an LA landmark that’s featured in many movies and television shows. I like starting the hike in Los Feliz where you can admire the beautiful homes and even spot Frank Llyod Wright’s Ennis house. Then we’d take a trip to Palm Springs. I love the old Hollywood history and mid-century architecture. There’s great food and tons of beautiful photo ops all over. One of my favorite places to visit is the Palm Tree Oasis. The flowing rivers under the towering and vast Palm trees which are surrounded by desert are like a dream.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband. Who’s always encouraging me to invest in myself and my artistic endeavors. He has pushed me to continue writing and making my own content any time self-doubt has crept in and is always there for me when I need to bounce creative ideas off someone or need a reader for a self-tape audition.
