We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrienne Wiley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adrienne, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is something that has become increasingly important to me over time. I used to stretch myself so thin and barely have any time to myself at all. Then in 2018, I took a step back, and made some changes in my business to create a less hectic schedule. Having that time helped me realize what I was missing and that I needed to make sure not to get that overloaded again. As a small business, it’s sometimes hard to draw that line in the sand for yourself. However, I feel like now I know when I have too many things on my plate and I can get things in check before it gets crazy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Covet is an umbrella for several things I love to do. First and foremost, it’s a handcrafted jewelry and gift shop. I’m excited to share that I just opened a new location of Covet inside the Flannery Exchange in uptown Palm Springs.  The original Covet has been in San Francisco’s Inner Richmond neighborhood since 2009.  So I’m currently learning how manage things remotely for that shop, from here in Palm Springs.  I also sell wholesale to other boutiques and create private label pieces for other brands. Most recently I also added vacation rental and turn-key interior design to my portfolio. It wasn’t easy to start my business back in 2005 when I barely knew any full time creative entrepreneurs. However, if I’ve learned anything, it’s to follow your intuition, surround yourself with smart & positive people, and don’t waste time on “what-if’s” or regrets. If you missed an opportunity, it was probably just to make room for something else to come along that’s meant for you. Currently, I’m most proud of keeping my business afloat through the pandemic and actually growing it by opening a second location in Palm Springs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m in Palm Springs right now, so if you’re here, I would say… Eat lunch poolside at Azucar, have an amazing sushi dinner at Sandfish, grab coffee at La Jefa, have a frozen treat at The Ice Cream & Shoppe, and don’t miss a visit to the Palm Springs Art Museum and their yummy restaurant, Persimmon Bistro. Also, check out Covet, Bobo Palm Springs, Super Simple, and all the other awesome shops in the uptown area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout out to my husband, Zealous. He always encourages me to pursue my goals and is there as a support and a sounding board regardless of how things turn out. I also want to give a shout out to my parents, who have always been extremely supportive.  Even in the beginning, when they were nervous for me to leave the stability of America…they championed my creative endeavors and let me blaze my own path.
