We had the good fortune of connecting with Aida Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aida, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
Parenting is the most meaningful role I have, it is also the most challenging. Raising free people is my priority. The most significant practice I’ve embraced is acknowledge and address my own childhood trauma so I can interrupt the intergenerational curse.

What should our readers know about your business?
Decolonize Design partners with organizations to create just and joyful workplaces. As a Black woman led and run organization, the odds were stacked against us. From extra scrutiny to dignity violations, we’ve experienced it all. Despite the difficult burden we’ve learned that integrity and transparency is critical to a successful partnership. I am less interested in creating a brand and much more interested in building a movement. Ultimately, I hope to inspire people to imagine a decolonial future.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The best decision I’ve ever made is choosing my life partner who is now father to our children. He has nurtured my intellectual, physical, emotional and spiritual growth–I am eternally grateful for that.
