We had the good fortune of connecting with AJ Avanno and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi AJ, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
You never give up, the rule of thumb is you can’t fail if you don’t quit. Every set back is an opportunity for you to work out the kinks and develop a better strategy. Pouring into yourself means following your heart and chasing your dreams. The passion is the fuel that keeps you going. Much like the gas in a car. My advice to anyone struggling with the idea of failure aka quitting is to readjust and to pay attention to areas in your business that require improvement but never to give up.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started in 2011 a Talent showcase called Talent Tonight. It features singers and conscious hip hop artist as we travel city to city growing as a community and supporting each other.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to a Talent Tonight show if one was scheduled to see and enjoy raw talent. Then I would drive out to the city to go shopping and get a bite to eat. The other days to follow will be filled with wholesome activities like making dinner at home, visiting the park on a nice sunny day, removing our shoes while walking through the grass and picnicking. We would have to visit the museum, a few national monuments and hit the Boroughs to show them the vastness and diversity in each neighborhood. I would start there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My cousin Hassan Paris, it was him who helped lite the flame after inviting me to a speed dating event 12 yrs ago. Sure the NYMinute who hosted the venue but I would say my cousin first for inviting me cause that’s where the vision took off. Idea after idea fueled by passion and the willingness to grow. I want to even shout out the doubters cause with out you all this climb to success would be so much less fun. I appreciate all motivation factors big and small.
