Meet Aja Adam | Singer/songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aja Adam and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aja, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It’s all I’ve ever done and all I’ll ever do. Growing up, music was always playing in my apartment. A keyboard would just be lying around for us (my siblings and I) to learn. We’d watch MTV/Vh1 religiously before going to school. Even when we started using computers on our own, we were just looking up undiscovered music, new and old, and whenever we saw an interview, documentary, or talk show appearance of an individual that we admired, I think we saw ourselves in them. Whether it’s music, cinema, fashion, comedy… creativity has always drawn me in, or maybe I’ve just seen the art in every aspect of life.
Please tell us more about your career. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’m a singer-songwriter from NYC, and I write a lot of love songs. I wouldn’t say that this makes me special, however I find that today’s artists stray away from songs about love, more and more. The world is so divided; I find that people are afraid to be vulnerable the way they used to be in music. Even if we’re discussing heartbreak, I don’t feel hearts breaking in music the way I used to. It’s like people are afraid to feel pain, so they just dismiss and move forward. I talk about very conflicting emotions, the ups and downs of love, losing hope and regaining hope. I think that’s the difference between my music and a lot of others; I’m going to try my very best to put you in my shoes with every song, if you’re willing to walk with me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly I wouldn’t have a strict itinerary if someone were to visit New York. I like to see where my feet take me in the moment. It’s needed for the real experience of going anywhere for the first time, within safety limits of course.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out anyone who believed in me. I’ve struggled with believing in myself, due to fears and insecurities. I know I’m not perfect, but not being perfect doesn’t mean I don’t deserve greatness in my life. So I’m grateful to the people who have shown me that.
