We had the good fortune of connecting with Alan Xu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risk is essential. Risk sparks change and opportunity.

Without taking risks I would not be where I am, who I am, and have gotten to know all the amazing people I’ve met along the way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In design, I see myself as a generalist with a focus on branding and motion, always exploring anything design-related—from creative coding to 2D/3D animation and beyond.

If I had to describe how I got here, it would be by staying proactive and refusing to settle. I believe in taking charge of creating opportunities rather than waiting for them to come your way, and avoiding the easy route just because it’s within reach.

Was it easy? Definitely not. There have been countless days where I’ve felt completely hopeless. It’s a constant cycle of falling and getting back up, over and over again. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. What’s kept me going is the simple drive to keep moving forward, no matter how tough things get. Nothing more, nothing less.

One key lesson I’ve learned is that the opportunities you create for yourself are infinitely more rewarding than those handed to you.

This is a bit challenging for me because everyone I’ve met has played a vital role in shaping who I am.

From my parents and significant other, who have given me unconditional love and support, to the knowledge and wisdom shared by my mentors and teachers, and all the friends I’ve laughed and cried with along the way.
