We had the good fortune of connecting with Alec Zeilon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alec, why did you pursue a creative career?
There was not really another choice for me, it was the only thing I could imagine myself doing. If I was going to do it, I was not going to have a plan B & just immerse myself in this journey and just do everything I can to be the best that I can be in it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The art I get to work on is very collaborative, so naturally its going to have a wide array of peoples influences that end up blending together in a way that wouldn’t normally happen if it was just any one person working on it. I feel what sets the art that we work on apart is the balancing of peoples influences & the attention to detail & care we put into each project to make a song the best we can make it in that moment.

I still feel like there’s a long way to go but looking back it has definitely been a long road to get here, from starting out playing guitar in coffee shops in Vegas to touring in a band then pivoting to songwriting and producing when the pandemic hit, then from solo bedroom producing to having a studio space I get to share with incredible collaborators & make some of our favorite art yet.
An important lesson I’ve learned is really to just show up every day & do the best that you can in that moment, be respectful of others & yourself, lift others up, & don’t. give. up.

Music, especially the industry part of it as we all know is constantly changing & can feel very dim at times, but there’s so much to be grateful & excited about, so I just want to show up everyday with that mindset & keep working.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely recommend visiting some iconic LA scenery and spots. It’s not a trip to LA without visiting either Venice, or Santa Monica, hitting any of the food spots/bars on Abbot Kinney. Thrifting is huge here and if you don’t know where to start the Melrose Trading Post on Sundays is a great place to find all kinds of amazing thrifted items. Hiking at Runyon or if you’re on the west side, Will Rogers is an incredible hike if you want to get outside. Concerts at the Hotel Cafe, Troubadour, El Rey, Madame Siam, The Mint, Bardot etc… Always great local acts playing at these venues & a great opportunity to catch some rising stars!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s a whole lot of people that without them in my life things would certainly not be the same at all. I owe so much to my family, close friends & collaborators, Hunter Ney, Natalie Sawicki, Valerie Borghesi, Kyla Imani, my mom, my mentors, Stargate, & to the whole creative community & family I’ve had the pleasure of surrounding myself with over the last couple years!
