We had the good fortune of connecting with Alejandra Aleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alejandra, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I started getting into Art when I got to High School I had never gotten to take an Art Class. I was very curious and took it for the next 4 years. I was influenced by family & friends to look into Tattooing my Family supported me and even got me my first tattoo machine by Christmas when I was 18 years old. I told my parents I wanted to pursue tattooing and went to look for an apprenticeship which at the time was hard since it’s a male dominated industry but I found a shop.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my Tattoo Career in the Hesperia, California at the time there was 2 female Tattoo Artist it was extremely hard to find an apprenticeship I asked every shop only one street shop said yes, I had to overcome a lot of harassment from Male Artist who just wanted me to quit I worked 6 days a week maybe 12 hours a day. I am a fighter my parents raised me to keep pushing and keep pursuing tattooing. I’m most proud to now be working in Huntington Beach at Paradigm Art Collective this is a private studio and feel so happy to work with such great artist. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to work hard & keep pushing my Art don’t fall through the cracks and get comfortable always keep learning. I give my all in every tattoo doesn’t matter the size or subject I try to give my client the best tattoo and best experience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I always take my friends to The Getty Museum it’s one of the best collections of art in Los Angeles and has the best view of the city. I would say for food I love King Taco & Tatsu Ramen the best place for tacos and ramen. For dessert my go to place is Little Damages it’s a gothic ice cream shop in downtown Los Angeles.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Olivia Aleman & Manuel Aleman my supportive parents and of course all my siblings my brother especially Eric Aleman one of the first person I tattooed. I want yo thank my mentor Slik Rik he thought me everything he knew he’s now passed away but I’m sure he’d be proud of how far I’ve come. The best book I can recommend to anyone is the Talent Code by Daniel Coyle great book that speaks on how greatness isn’t born it’s grown.
