We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Correa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
I don’t necessarily think there is an end goal. There are plenty of things that I would like to accomplish but putting an end goal in place sounds like there’s a finish line that once i cross, I no longer get to run. I would love a long run in my career in film. I would definitely like to be able to tell certain stories that I have in my back pocket and be able to work with certain individuals. The relationships I gain from set are the things that I value most. It’s a special thing to be surrounded around people who also have this undying love for movies and the making of them. The end goal professionally in my career is to be able to run out of stories to tell.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Professionally my career as of now in film has mostly been as a cinematographer, this year alone I have been on 3 projects and actually plan to Direct and DP a film of mine called “Virtuoso” in the middle of April. The story consists of a Mexican mother and son who come into America in search of a better life. Our protagonist Toño discovers a passion for playing piano, he does this in secret while his mom is in confession at church. The story is one very close to my heart, I took a lot of inspiration from my good friend Sergio Gonzalez who is actually also the composer for the film. We look forward to sharing this film with the world and hopefully give some more representation for Latino people as a whole in the film industry.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Given I live in Long Beach, anything in LA is a good choice. Specifically, I enjoy going to Theme Parks, Museums, even grand sights. To name a few would be Universal Studios, The California Science Center, The Huntington Library, and of course the Griffith Observatory. As far as eating goes you can never go wrong with Street Tacos, and maybe a nice Italian restaurant, I’m still looking for a good spot but I’m sure I’ll find one soon. As far as hanging out goes, The Pike in Long Beach is notorious for LB locals, there’s also a good spot around the corner called shoreline village that I personally would take any friend of mine visiting the area, there’s an arcade, food spots, collectibles even a random hat store! Can’t recommend enough.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In my life there have been 3 people that have taken a chance on me and have given me the confidence to create. My first shout out has to be to my High School Drama Teacher Randy Bowden, At the age of 14 he gave me the confidence in myself to be seen in front of a live audience, he’s shown me the true meaning of making every moment count and have purpose. The second person I have to give a huge shout out to is Steven Schmidt co-founder of Reel Arc, Steven also took a chance on me straight out of college as a production assistant to then being a cinematographer in a matter of months for his company, with that he has been very generous with his time, equipment and space and its absolutely more than anyone could ask for. To finish off I do have to give a huge shoutout to Carlos Lopez Founder of AtMedia, Carlos from the get-go was very interested in my work as a cinematographer and has even brought me on plenty of shoots and projects in the commercial side of the world. His kindness and willingness to support me in my ride in filmmaking is irreplaceable.
