Meet Alex Stedman | Actor, Singer, Writer, Producer, and Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Stedman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
“How you do one thing is how you do everything.”
I’m a Taurus baby…translation: I love to relax, chill, and treat myself. But when it comes to my passions/work, I transform into a military sergeant to get my projects done. I feel like I do my best work a little under the wire, especially when others are counting on me. I thrive under responsibility and external pressure, which is why I speak things into existence, set deadlines, and have accountability partners.
Will I let my laundry pile up on my chair for a whole week? Ya bet…especially if it’s a part of the means to the end to create the most organized and meticulous shot list or set schedule possible. Different tasks require different approaches, and that’s okay.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love to create, I love to express, and I love to laugh—that’s where all my art stems from. Creating and expressing myself is essential for healing, well-being, and thriving. I always need to be moving and making. Fortunately, I’m also quite loud about it. I once saw a quote that has become my modified and edited life motto: “The best, quiet people won’t get as far as the mediocre, loud ones.” So, I embrace my loudness and use it for fuel. It’s funny—sometimes I’ll come home hungry and tired, but then I’ll get distracted by a sound in my head that I need to turn into a song. After 30 minutes of tinkering on the guitar, I’m suddenly full and energized.
I love to act, make music, write songs, draw, dance, and improv comedy babyyy — especially musical improv.
What I’m most proud of in my life is a project I just wrapped production on called “House of Portraitures and Philanthropy.” It’s a comedic episodic with a large ensemble cast (at least for me, pretty big). I had the opportunity to cast and work with all my real-life friends I’ve met in classes or in the LA scene. It was beautiful to have so many talented people at my fingertips and be able to give them an opportunity, and they gave me one in return.
This project is currently in post-production and is turning out better than I ever imagined. I cannot believe this massive project, which went so smoothly and is turning out so well, was my directorial debut. I got to write, produce, and work on it with my best friend, Gia Nevel, who is new to the entertainment industry but got a great first taste. It was surprisingly easy because of the amazing community, created here in LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely! It’s not original, but my mom, dad, and brother, who always encourage and support my “starving artist” dreams. Their unwavering belief has been vital of my persistence and drive.
Then, there’s my community of fellow artists. I have the most beautiful creative network thanks to places like Krater Studio, UCB, and all the sets big and small I’ve worked on. A sense of belonging and mutual support is fundamental!
