We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander He and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexander, what do you want your legacy to be?
As a child, I love watching animation, movies that gave me new visions of how the world could be in an imaginary world. Now I have become an artist, create dreams is my dream. I hope to become someone that can inspire the world with new visions.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being influenced by what I constantly saw and heard in my family, I started to draw when I was 3 or 4 years old with my parent’s help and gradually took art as a dream that I will constantly chase in the future. Creating art has always been and still is a challenge for me, maybe even for a lifetime, but I definitely find pleasure during this process. I enjoy painting, enjoy seeing an imaginary world created from my mind, and enjoy the characters’ story moments shown in every key scene. The journey of learning art is not as simple as people think. During the first few terms that I began to study at Artcenter, in order to enhance my foundation skills, me and my friends pulled countless all-nighters, a lot of sweat and tears. Later on, as you know, I decided that I wanted to work in the animation industry as a Visual Development Artist after I graduate because of my dream, which is to create new dreams for others. I hope the world I help create will lighten a spark of creativity in people’s hearts. Overall, I would say that all the efforts I paid in these countless nights is because I love art and I enjoy animation, that’s why I can sacrifice for it and hold on to it. Hopefully, one day, I’ll create something special that will stay in the long history of animation film industry, and more people who love animation can enjoy it and take part in it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I enjoy going to museums, so I would recommend those famous ones in LA: LACMA, The MOCA, The Getty etc. Personally about food, I love Korean BBQ! K-town is the place for it. I recommend Ahgassi Gopchang and Jae Bu Do (Seafood BBQ!) Secondly, Chinese food in LA is definitely super decent!! There are too many of them that I can’t write all of them down at the moment, but Tam’s noodle house(San Gabriel),Meizhou Dongpo Restaurant (Arcadia), T- KEBOB (Monterey Park) are on my “Must Try” list. Lastly, I just explored a hiking trail recently in LA that was really beautiful during sunset, it’s called: Ascot Hills Park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I come from an artists family, I would say my family definitely has the greatest influence on my artistic career. Besides that, I want to shoutout to all my friends, colleagues and instructors, I wouldn’t be where I am today without those amazing, talented people I’m around during the process of pursuing art.
