We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander Skye and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexander, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has definitely been such a big part of my life since the moment I decided to move to Los Angeles. When I moved here to start my music career I had $200 in my bank account, no job, and no idea what I was doing. I kinda just trusted that the city would lead me down the right path, so to say. As an artist, I later learned that risk taking is also so essential when sharing your art with the world. You send out little pieces of yourself hoping that someone will relate to your message and that’s always such a gamble. It’s definitely worth it in the end when you get to see how people react to your creation. Best feeling!!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I kinda figured out from a young age that I NEVER wanted to work a traditional office job. In high school when people asked what I wanted to do after graduation I’d half-jokingly always say “an International Pop Star!” cause like, manifestation sis! But then it came time to graduate and I realized they only class I actually attended all year was choir. At that point I realized I should probably pursue music! Lol! Once I moved to LA I was able really focus all my energy on not only my vocals but also songwriting and lyricism, a newfound love of mine. I’m able to blend my wide taste in music together to create unique lyrics that don’t sound like your average cookie cutter pop. My path so far has shown me that being 100% authentic with not just the world, but also yourself will get you so far in life! That’s everything I want to give off in my music!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely have to take my bestie to the Melrose Trading Post to get some dope clothes! I always find some unique fits when I go there. I’d wanna swing by House of Intuition in North Hollywood. I love all their candles, crystals, and incense. A definite vibe. My favorite wing spot in the area is Michin Dak in Ktown. Their spicy korean fried chicken is f**king everything!! After that we’d head to Jamesson’s bar on Hollywood Blvd for some drinks and the night would end at Tiger Heat club at the Avalon to HAVE IT!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friends are so important to me. They’ve held me down through every transition in my life and really are the inspiration for my music. I only want to write music that my friends and I can kick it to in every mood so they really push me be my best. A real driving force!
