We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Deigh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Creativity drives me. Whether it’s acting, writing books, producing films or painting, it’s just what I love to do. Even my job as a tour guide at one of the major studios is entertainment – part stand-up — to make the tour as fun and informative as possible.

I fell in love with acting early — when I was in the first grade. The local high school near my elementary school needed kids to be in a production of Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat. I had a small part. First, it gave me a fun, artistic outlet. Also, it got me out of school for a few hours a week. I was hooked.

Another thing I remember about that play is on the night of the show everyone including all the highschoolers formed a good luck circle where the director did their whole “we- will -do- great -tonight” speech. I was in awe. I remember looking at all the highschoolers and thinking “wow, I want to be a star like them some day.”

I’ve always loved story telling. Growing up I used to go see movies and then go home and act them out on my own. Or I’d think of extended endings to those movies. I recently found a notebook from when I was younger where I wrote down movie scripts. Some of the ideas are still movies I’d want to make one day.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I don’t consider myself an expert in in any single discipline. But I realized that I like to do many things and try new creative pursuits. Sometimes if I’m not getting a lot of auditions, I think, well, I’ll write and direct my own stuff. I learn a lot each time and my short films have been well received. Recently I wrote a children’s book called “I Like Being Me”. It’s illustrated by Freddy Luna and available on Amazon. I had so much fun making my own book and I am working on a second one now. I also do dog photography. I take photos of rescue dogs for their profile. I also take photos of dogs and make calendars of them for their owners.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love movie sets and studios. I actually am a tour guide at a studio right now. That’s how much I love studio tours. So, whenever I have people visit me, I’m like you’re in LA you need to see all the movie studios (but mine is obviously the best). Also, whenever someone comes and visits, I like to drive them from Hollywood to the Santa Monica Pier on Sunset Blvd. It’s a really nice drive and they get to see a bunch of famous areas in one trip. I know little about restaurants and bars because I’m a broke actor so I don’t go out much.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m grateful to all of the industry people who have been willing to help me. There are too many to list but I am so happy when I need a referral or advice from a friend and they say something like “Oh, I can connect you with…” And I love paying it forward, connecting people who can help each other out. In an industry that can be so competitive and cutthroat, it’s so awesome when someone wants to help. For example, a friend, Giovanna Caruso told Shout Out LA about me. That was a nice surprise. But the fact that she was willing to talk me up was so amazing to me. By the way, go check out her interview she is an amazing director.
My parents have always been huge supporters of whatever my dreams are no matter how crazy they get. They have always helped me along the way and been there when I need to vent. Also, my brother is out here in LA as a writer and he is someone I can always go to for help. For example, if I’m editing one of my web series films and my editing software is not doing what I want. He’s really good with technology so he’s my own personal Genius Bar. Also, I have to thank my dog Tony. He is the best dog ever and he would never forgive me for not thanking him.
