We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Hulme and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Oh yes, balance — this is a big one for me! The lack of balance I was living with in my former life is what divinely re-routed me into the health & wellness industry ushering me into becoming a transformational guide and advocate for others going through something similar.

In my early 30’s I was dealing with a lot of stress, living “la vida loca” abroad, had let go of any healthy habits I’d previously created and soon fell to the floor from what was a total and utter burnout. When we aren’t listening to the warning signs from our body, this is what usually happens. I had become very ill, had lost what felt like the engine inside of me and required 3 months of bed rest. I knew in my soul it all stemmed from the way I was living, a mixture of Epstein Barr overload, chemical toxicity/heavy metals and the psychological/physical stress I had put myself under for years. My nervous system was shot, my adrenals and organs went on strike and I had to rebuild step by step at a foundational level.

Up until my health crisis in 2017, I had been working primarily in the entertainment industry, and living in a very high-stress and unbalanced way for two decades. When I got sick and was in bed for months I was forced to slow down and take stock of what parts of my lifestyle were no longer working. It took quite a bit of patience, grace and surrender, but I was able to alchemize this very challenging time by learning the skills I ultimately used to heal myself. This pivotal health crisis, brought so many gifts — as most dark nights of the soul often do. It led me to getting certified as a Kundalini Yoga, Meditation & Breathwork teacher, which was a practice I had passionately been student of for 10 years. I became so passionate about the transformational process and healing that I decided to go back to school, graduating in 2021 from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition as a Certified Holistic Health Coach. The deep nourishment that came from allowing myself the time and space to heal, breathe and invest my (new) self into these passions brought so much richness, and deep harmony to my life. Now opening my business and guiding clients through their own transformational processes, helping them to find balance and healing — I am in absolute gratitude to be a steward of this work.

After creating this new foundation with my wellness business, I’m able to live a more balanced and sustainable life. Rather than up-rooting myself when the next entertainment job pops up, I just trust in the ever-deepening expansion of my roots and say yes to projects that feel aligned, in balance and bring me joy!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a Holistic Health Coach, Kundalini Yoga & Dance Teacher and a guide for transformation — my deepest passion in life is the process of awakening the mind, body, spirit organically through deep self love, self-inquiry, embodied soul alignment and authentic self expression.

We are in transformational times and the old tools we once used for being healthy happy humans no longer work, we need new ones and we need them more than ever before. Holistic healing of the body, mind and spirit has been a practice of mine since an early age. After challenges around my safety within a chaotic upbringing, sexual trauma at 18, and mysterious health issues since I was young I began seeking balance and harmony through various esoteric healing modalities. I was drawn to the technologies of Yoga & Meditation, along with ancient wisdom of Ayurveda & Chinese Medicine. Re-orchestrating my diet was not enough, I needed a full body overhaul with deep nervous system healing work, a foundational reboot of my energetic chakra system and a commitment to showing up and giving my body pure love and support on a daily basis in order to nourish, maintain, heal and regenerate at a cellular level.

This personal experience with alchemizing challenging times imprinted the process of transformation so deeply in me that I’m able to hold a deep container for my clients to go through their own transformative and healing process knowing they are held and supported. I believe if we give the body half a chance the body will begin to heal by itself, with YOU as the healer, and your bodies biggest and best advocate, ALWAYS.

It is a gift to be a steward of this work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oooo! Yes, will it would start on a Sunday and we would first get Chagacinos from Erewhon and attend a yoga class at Ra Ma Institute in Santa Monica. After class we’d hit up Moon Juice on Rose for green shakes and twirl over to Mar Vista for the Farmers Market. Visiting my faves at Astron Herbal we’d stock up on all the Ayurvedic healing herbs, and veggies from Sunrise Organic. We’d make our way back home to Topanga to create a little feast from our market bounty and enjoy it looking over the beautiful Topanga Mountains listening to White Sun and birdsong dancing along in unison. We’d make our way down to the beach for an afternoon swim, and then back up the mountain for sunset at Ethereal Yoga in Pine Tree Circle for two new delicious classes I’m offering to the community. First up, ROOT: a grounding and restorative Kundalini Yoga & Meditation class focused on healing the ten body system followed by light & delightful tea and nourishment with the community. Then it’s RE-WILD: a little sunset witching hour where we weave dance, meditation and breathwork together to unlock your inhibitions taking you on an exploration of non-linear form and free movement. Party afterwards at Endless Color full of fermented sourdough pizzas and dancing under the moon/disco ball light. We sleep with the windows open and listen to nature, wake with the sun and start the week with a hike to Eagle Rock in the Topanga State Park. From there, I let the friend decide what’s next and I sure do hope they pick Disneyland! It’s all about balance, and experiencing it all!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
OH yesss — it all comes down to family, both my roots, and my spiritual fam! First off — my Kundalini yoga family at Ra Ma Institute of Applied Yogic Science and Technology located in Santa Monica, my Topanga Family (the Anderson bunch!), and my fam fam — the unconditional love, support, and growth I’ve experienced by being part of these tribes is immense. I am forever grateful to have such solid anchors in my life.
