We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandria “Alex” Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandria “Alex”, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting the Cookie Nook I love to bake. It is my stress relief. My happy place and I like coming up with different flavors so why not create a space for myself to do what I love. For a while, I was baking for every single party dinner lunch that my friends had I I would bake anything that I could think of cookies, cupcakes cakes anything and when I brought them, they devoured them they were like that there was nothing left and I loved that feeling giving somebody something that was just so delicious that they ate it all and then later on I had my son and when he was a baby, he was allergic to everything under the sun. Anything that was delicious. The sweet treat he was allergic to so I was really upset at the thought that he wouldn’t have a cake for his first birthday so I started baking intentionally, and my son grew out of his allergies, I got to finally play around with other ingredients that I wasn’t able to use before so the reason why I started The Cookie Nook I guess I could say is my son.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What distinguishes my bakery from others are the distinctive flavors I infuse into my cookies, the wide range of sizes available, and the exceptional customer experience that accompanies every order. From the moment a customer engages with me to place their first dozen cookie order, I strive to ensure they feel valued and delighted by the entire process. One of the pivotal moments in my journey as a baker occurred during the Taste of Soul event in 2023. As a first-time vendor at this renowned festival, I was overwhelmed by the support of the community and the opportunity to showcase my creations on such a grand scale. The connections I made with new customers and fellow business owners during the event were invaluable, and I was thrilled to have sold out of my products. The positive feedback I received, including from influential figures like the LA Try Guy, further solidified my confidence in the quality of my cookies and the potential of my business.
However, reaching this point was not without its challenges. Like many entrepreneurs, I navigated the path of trial and error, seeking guidance from mentors and learning from my mistakes along the way. Perfecting the balance of flavors, adjusting to unforeseen circumstances like unexpected rain during outdoor events, and finding innovative ways to market my brand were all part of the journey. Despite setbacks, I remained resilient and committed to delivering the best possible product to my customers.
The inspiration behind my bakery, Cookie Nook, stems from a deeply personal place – my son’s allergies. Faced with the challenge of creating treats he could enjoy safely, I embarked on a journey of experimentation with alternative ingredients. Over time, as my son outgrew his allergies, my repertoire expanded, allowing me to explore a diverse range of flavors and techniques in my baking.
What sets Cookie Nook apart is not just the delicious cookies we create, but the love and passion infused into every batch. From the meticulous selection of ingredients to the heartfelt dedication to customer satisfaction, baking has become more than just a business – it’s my happy place. Witnessing the joy on someone’s face as they bite into one of my cookies and experiencing the nostalgia or pure delight it brings them is the ultimate reward.
In addition to the joy of baking, Cookie Nook is also a family affair. From my children helping to create the brand’s logo to brainstorming names for the bakery together, their involvement has been instrumental in shaping the identity of the business. It’s a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of staying true to one’s roots.
As I continue to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of entrepreneurship, one thing remains constant – my unwavering love for baking and sharing that joy with others. Through dedication, resilience, and a sprinkle of creativity, I’m excited to see where this journey takes Cookie Nook next.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m generally more of a homebody, especially when planning outings with my friends. We typically lean towards activities like brunch, visiting a winery or enjoying a wine tasting, or simply gathering at someone’s home to cook together or order in. If we do venture out, it’s usually for brunch, a winery visit, or perhaps a round of bowling. I don’t tend to go out often; I find comfort in staying at home. Whether it’s indulging in my favorite shows, experimenting with new cookie flavors, or cherishing moments with family, home is where I prefer to be.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In this journey, it truly takes a village, and I am blessed to have an incredible support system. My children are my unwavering cheerleaders, reminding me to persevere even when exhaustion sets in. Their belief in me fuels my determination, even at 3 AM before an early morning. My closest friends have been with me every step, serving as taste testers and dance partners during late-night baking sessions. They’ve infused this journey with joy and camaraderie. My boyfriend is a pillar of strength, tirelessly assisting with every aspect of the business, from loading and unloading to providing unwavering encouragement. His presence at events and constant support make all the difference.
My mother’s belief in my abilities has been a constant source of inspiration, rooted in the love I poured into every treat she proudly shared. And my brothers, though miles away, offer guidance and encouragement whenever I need it most. Their wisdom and support have been invaluable. To each and every one of them, I am endlessly grateful.
