We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Damita and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, risk-taking: how do you think about risk, what role has taken risks played in your life/career?
Personally for me risk is all about getting out of your comfort zone. It is also a little bit of gambling, 50/50 chances in all areas of your life. It all depends on how far you’re willing to push yourself. Results may vary. You have to be willing to understand you will take a lot of losses. However that is not an invitation to become permanently discouraged and regularly having a negative point of view. Take notes; you learn and grow from it tremendously. Now you have so much strength in knowing that you were able to get through that and how to handle things moving forward.
But wait… There’s more 🙂 — A grateful heart will attract a lot of blessings. When you least expect it or you have a good feeling… A win or many wins come into fruition. Risk is a beautiful thing. You just have to be willing to put in the work consistently, take what comes your way and have a balanced mindset. It’s a process but it is worth it.
My Life: Time Management
My life? Time management. Whether it is a big project that will take up my whole day or a small task that will take less time, I am always working. It’s a little bit of both applying more time here and less time there. “Am I not spending enough time working on this? What could be better? What’s next on my daily planner?” From my thoughts to my due of diligence. Some days can be a lot better. This is where I regroup myself and plan differently. Then there’s other days, where the risks I have taken worked greatly in my favor with time management. I always keep in mind everything will work itself out for the better. One step at a time.
My Career: Saying “No” To Roles
For my career, saying no. I am an actress. I am very passionate about the work that I put in and the work I receive. I love acting. Acting makes me happy. I love to pursue the craft of acting. I think it’s so dope to be able to tackle so many different genres of acting and believing in the characters. The goal is to be a working actor. I am also hopeful for my future endeavors. The risks is truthfully understanding when it is necessary to say “no.”
I’m sure people can relate to making mistakes (myself included) that not every casting call is for you. You do not want to feel you’re getting in your own way of your success and not regularly being booked. I understand. It happens to the best of us. There is another day ahead of me with fresh new opportunities that will indeed resonate with me, and or, I am just a natural for it. This is where my consistency plays a major part. Be positive. Be hopeful.
It is tempting to want to jump at every opportunity. I believe it is very crucial to always do your due of diligence, you’re always being purposeful and in alignment with who you truly are. I know what is truly for me, will come when it’s time. I am steady being guided to continue practicing, classes, always networking and of course having fun! There is no such thing as too much knowledge.
Everyday I am learning more about myself within my craft in acting. I am grateful and very appreciative of the journey I am currently on.
Alright, so let’s jump right in! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there a person, group, organization, book, etc that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? Who else deserves a little credit and recognition in your story?
Most definitely! First, I would love to Thank God for allowing me to see another day of life. Thank you, I am very grateful for that. I would love to especially thank the most beautiful and important ladies in my life, my Grandmother and my Mother. They mean the world to me 🙂
Shoutout to my supporters you guys are gems and I will never forget you guys. Vice versa, you know who you are. Shoutout to everybody chasing their dreams and not letting nothing nor anyone stand in the way of that. Last but definitely not least, a big shoutout to VoyageLA Magazine and the entire Los Angeles team for featuring me again. I appreciate you guys so much. I am honored that you guys continue to share and support my journey. Much love and blessings!
Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
No matter how many times things do not play out the way I pray and hope for? I will keep going regardless. I’ll keep practicing, networking in newer and innovative ways.
I have to keep going, that’s just me to me telling myself that. You don’t never have to question my passion for this. If you must, my persistence and overall willingness will answer that for you every time without a doubt. This is what I am most proud of myself for and it has and still is paying off. This is what also, sets me apart from others. I focus on myself and I do not engage in anything that will distract me. I’m very serious. How did I get to where I am today professionally? What are the lessons I learned along the way? Consistent prayers, a balanced mindset. Being my biggest fan. Always!
Hopefully the readers and my supporters were able to connect with my previous interview with VoyageLA (06/10/20.) I elaborated more on how I obtained my profession and the lessons learned along the way and etc. It is simply time and being more wise.
I want the world to know that I am always grateful none the less for everything. I am having fun and working hard just like everyone else, in my own way. I am my biggest fan. I am very hopeful. I love to learn and support my peers along the way. Please, continue following my journey. Thank you in advance 🙂
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Lol it’s so many “ooh’s” and “ahh’s” when you take someone to visit Times Square 42nd street. All the shopping places, big and bright city lights, food, snacks and live entertainment. Now of course when you from New York, it’s regular to me. Manhattan, New York (the city) you can find plenty of things to do. You have a lot of options; a lot of good restaurants and bars.
Los Angeles? Gizmo’s cereal bar. The decor is playful and very child hood like. I’m sure anyone can appreciate the palm trees, mountains, parks, beaches, the views and overall weather in Los Angeles. Let’s not forget all of which I just said with some exercising.
