Meet Alexis Rheinwald-Jones: Owner & Designer, The Source Apparel

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Rheinwald-Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Coming from a healthcare background, I can’t help but think of risk through the lens of regret. I have sat with enough people at the end of their lives to know that nobody looks back and says, “I sure am glad that I never pursued that risky thing I was interested in.” I feel scared all the time in my business. There’s so much about it that isn’t natural for me. But when I feel that way, all I have to do is think back to the dying patients I’ve talked to. Nobody is glad that they didn’t give their dreams a shot. My goal is to live a life driven by creativity and to create a positive change around body image, sustainability, and the way working people are treated. My business is my current, best attempt at doing that.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is dressing people sustainably. Compared to most clothing designers, one thing that’s different about my approach is that I come from a real-person, everyday point of view. I actually love designing clothes that will work for a wide variety of bodies, in the way that people use clothes every day. I have an appreciation for couture and runway fashion, but my real passion is figuring out how to make beautiful clothes that help people feel comfortable and supported in their day-to-day. I think in some ways, the most challenging thing is to bring beauty into the routine of human living, and I love that challenge.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have to admit that I’m not a great tour guide! I’ve lived in LA my whole life, but I’m a home body. Fortunately, we have some great spots in my neighborhood in Los Feliz. In the Before Times, a cozy dinner at All Time is a must. I love the Griffith Observatory and could go there weekly, and always love a hike in Griffit Park as well. Big Bar has some of the best cocktails around. I will venture west for a trip to the beach on a warm day–you can’t keep me away from the ocean! Night life…I’m not the one to ask. If you want to spend an evening at my house soaking in the hot tub, drinking good wine, eating takeout and watching Netflix, then I definitely know how to show you a good time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am without my husband, Nick Rheinwald-Jones. He never stops encouraging and pushing me.
