Meet Alexsiya Flora | Artist & Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexsiya Flora and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexsiya, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The end goal is having no regrets. Knowing that I lived my life in full, helped the world in a positive way to create change and had fun along the way. Every year I reflect on my journey and see how much I have accomplished and then something else happens that surprises me and is a sign of excitement and clarity. I am so lucky to get to be an artist and filmmaker. That everything else is bonus. I would love to create more work internationally and have my own studio.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is deeply personal and multi-faceted—it’s a blend of storytelling, family, and purpose. At the core, I aim to create work that connects people emotionally, whether it’s through filmmaking, painting, or innovative education projects. What sets me apart is the way I integrate real-life challenges and beauty into my art. For example, my documentary Adventures in Plymptoons! celebrates the life and work of legendary animator Bill Plympton while exploring the creative process and the tenacity it takes to follow your passion. It’s a project that exemplifies my love for celebrating unique stories and individuals who inspire others to dream big.
What I’m most proud of is how my work intertwines with my life as a mother. My daughter, Sunshine, inspires so much of what I create. Whether it’s drawing and painting with her or reading 1,000 books together, these moments are part of the legacy I’m building—not just for her but for families like ours who dream big and live boldly.
Professionally, the road has been anything but easy. I’ve faced rejection, doubt, and the complexities of balancing creativity with responsibility. But those challenges taught me resilience and the value of perseverance. One lesson I’ve learned is that vulnerability is strength. Telling authentic stories and letting the world see the unpolished, raw parts of you is what creates meaningful connections.
I want the world to know that my work is about creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and inspired. Whether it’s through my films, projects like a hybrid school for nomadic families, or empowering other creatives to chase their dreams, my mission is to build bridges—between generations, communities, and cultures.
My story is one of staying curious, embracing imperfection, and turning life’s chaos into something beautiful. It’s not always glamorous, but it’s real, and that’s what makes it worth sharing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d create a perfect mix of art, culture, fun, and relaxation. Here’s how it would go:
Day 1: Start with a trip to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures to celebrate our love of cinema, followed by classic deli sandwiches and matzo ball soup at Canter’s Deli.
Day 2: Spend the day soaking up contemporary art at The Broad Museum, then head to Okamoto Kitchen
in Sherman Oaks for an eclectic Japanese food.
Day 3: Beach day! We’ll hit Santa Monica for some sunshine, biking along the boardwalk, and fresh seafood at a beachfront spot.
Day 4: Cheer on the LMU Women’s Basketball team—it’s always exciting to support local athletes!
Day 5: A painting picnic with breathtaking views at The Getty Museum. We’d pack some charcuterie and goldfish for a relaxing, creative afternoon.
Day 6: Immerse in magic and mystery at The Magic Castle for an unforgettable evening of entertainment.
Day 7: Wrap up the trip with pure fun at Knott’s Berry Farm—roller coasters, fried chicken, and a dose of nostalgia.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hammad Zaidi of Lonely Seal Company Group has been a great mentor and with his encouragement I went back to school this year to pursue a masters in Entertainment Leadership and Management at Loyola Marymount University.
