We had the good fortune of connecting with Ali Bassir and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ali, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We all have a unique point of view, shaped by our life experiences. This unique perspective nurtures our one-of-a-kind potential. However, not every employer requires us to fully express that potential. If you are always seeking to improve the status quo and think beyond what’s expected of you, you’ll find that this just won’t cut it!

You may feel cursed because you’re aware of your untapped potential, but you’re also blessed because you can envision how to help people in your own unique way. That was the spark that led to my entrepreneurship journey. Once I mustered the courage to trust myself and endure the ups and downs, it was only a matter of time until my vision, my business, became a reality.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are a design agency based in Los Angeles, specializing in business branding and web development. At Right Angle Brands, we believe that everyone has a unique story, which helps us uncover the distinct opportunities of your business and develop a brand strategy to build positive and lasting relationships with your customers.

Many businesses out there struggle to showcase their unique value and leave untapped opportunities on the table. To us, that is painful to watch. That’s why, as storytellers at heart, we are ready to help them tell their story from all the right angles and see the growth they deserve.

We started as a graphic design studio in 2016, assisting entrepreneurs and businesses in designing and creating marketing materials such as logos, flyers, and merchandise.

Over the years, we realized that our clients could dramatically increase their returns if they had a strategic plan for spending their resources on design. A more holistic approach was much needed. That led to the founding of Right Angle Brands LLC in 2021. With this model, we have been able to help our clients get the maximum bang for their buck by approaching design from a strategic angle.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A 7-day visit? They’re in for a treat! Here’s the itinerary:

On the first morning, I will take them for a hike at the LA Observatory. Then we’ll grab a Sujoo muffin for breakfast from my neighborhood breakfast spot called Muffin Can Stop Us!

On day 2, as a Glendale resident, I’m inclined to take them for a walk around Americana town center for a little shopping. We’ll then head out to Laguna’s beautiful Table Rock Beach. That spot has magnificent sunset views with the sound of waves crashing onto the rocky cliffs.

Day 3 is all about Disneyland and California Adventure Park. With an early start, we will get to experience all the fun and adventure of both parks and be back by midnight.

Day 4 will be a slow morning and an evening BBQ by the pool to recover. In the evening, we’ll head down to The Glendale Room to watch an open mic or an improv show, followed by a beautiful tapas dinner at Bacari GDL for mouthwatering Pork Belly and house baguette!

Day 5 calls for more exploration of the iconic LA sites. Santa Monica Pier, Muscle Beach, Hollywood Blvd, Rodeo Drive, etc. While we’re at it, let’s end the day with a stand-up show at The Comedy Store!

The morning of day 6 will be spent on another hike. This time in the Eaton Canyon Falls, north of Pasadena. I’m an outdoorsy introvert, so I can get lost in nature for hours. Lunch at Raffi’s Place, the number one Persian food in LA. Once we’re back and regrouped, we’ll head for a fun evening at La Descarga LA to watch a burlesque show.

Day 7 is reserved for a slow recovery and everything we may have missed during the week. At this point, my friend should be exhausted and have had enough fun. They’ll either be ready to get back to their life or move to LA permanently!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
None of us is doing it alone, and that is certainly the case for me. First and foremost, as an Iranian-American immigrant, I owe everything to my parents, Rana and Ghasem, who not only envisioned a better future abroad for my siblings and me but also sacrificed their time with us so we could have a better future. Secondly, my college coaches and mentors, Sam Carter, Jamie Ives, and Eddie Concepcion, bore with me and saw my potential even at times when I couldn’t. Third, my brother, who has always been there to show me the way. And last but not least, my incredible life partner, Emily Hennelly, and her wonderful family, who welcomed me like their own from day one. I wouldn’t be here without all of you.
