Meet Alice Macedo | Singer/Songwriter & Music Industry Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alice Macedo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alice, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe that my success is a lot due to my resilience and unending commitment to learning. The music industry’s constant evolution demands adaptability, and I firmly believe that my ability to embrace change and my continuous pursuit of knowledge have been pivotal in my journey. I highly value the practice of listening to others, absorbing diverse perspectives, and seeking out new insights. In an environment where transformation is the norm, my receptiveness to fresh ideas and my dedication to self-improvement have not only propelled my personal development but also positioned me to navigate the dynamic landscape of the music industry with confidence and innovation.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, and my musical journey began at just six years old, when I embarked on a path that would shape my life, starting with voice lessons that ignited a passion for music. As the years unfolded, my enthusiasm led me to move on to other areas of this thrilling industry.
I made a pivotal change at the age of 17 by moving to Miami, Florida, to complete my high school education in an arts-focused charter school, which then, moved my journey to the halls of Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, I transformed my passion into a purpose, seizing every opportunity that came my way. My years at Berklee were marked not just by academic success, but also by a range of leadership roles. I served as the Editor in Chief of the Music Business Journal, a role that showcased my capability in blending my musical acumen with business acuity.
I also took on the Law and Management Club’s presidency, building up their partnership with Harvard Law School. My commitment to supporting women in music was put into practice with my role as the Events Coordinator for the Women Musicians Network. Additionally, I was a proud member of the Berklee Popular Music Institute (BPMI), a distinction that allowed me to shine behind some of the biggest stages in the world, at Lollapalooza Chicago in 2022.
As the years went by, I was honored to accomplish multiple recognitions. I was honored to receive the Music Business Association 2020 Scholarship, the Boston Magazine Endowed Scholarship, Berklee’s Music Business Department Entrepreneurship and Technology awards, and, most recently, this years prestigious BMI Peermusic Latin Music Award for my songwriting excellence, represented by my track “Te Levo Comigo.”
By the end of 2022, after a couple months of internship, I was offered a role at Ranked Music, a digital marketing consultancy, where I’ve had the pleasure to work on campaigns for some of the industry’s biggest stars. From Bad Bunny to Anitta, Maluma to Karol G, from Warner Records/Latina to SoundOn/TikTok. As their Strategy and Planning Specialist, I have taken a seat at the intersection of innovation and influence. I am now focused on not only analyzing data and trends but also in crafting strategies that propel artists to unprecedented digital growth. I hope to continue to shape the industry’s landscape, while also nurturing my own musical talents.
In the ever-evolving world of music, I hope my journey serves as an inspiring testament to the power of passion, talent, and an unyielding commitment to growth.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely start by taking them on a bike ride along Venice, and Santa Monica which would end at sunset on Élephante in Main Street.
On the next day we would go for a picnic in El Matador beach, and on the way back we would stop at the Getty Villa and Museum.
At night we would vary between emerging artists’ shows, and orchestral concerts at Hollywood Bowl.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents, Gabriela and Jomar, and my sister Helena, my biggest supporters!
