We had the good fortune of connecting with Alisha Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alisha, how do you think about risk?
Being a risk taker is literally my driving force. I’ve never been afraid to try new things or change my mindset. I spent years focusing on the same industries when it came to my creative talent, then one day I just decided to go a different direction. Entering a new territory, unsure of the outcome and just taking a leap of faith. Big risks, big vision.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my career off as a freelance graphic designer. I did a little of this and that, motion design included. I designed things like moving ads for social media and email. All of this was self-taught. I used to spend time researching ideal companies that I wanted to work for and would find ways work with them to build my portfolio. Eventually my business started to take off and I never put out an ad for clients. I always got a lot of referrals. One of the most important things in business for me has always been making sure that I deliver prompt and quality work. I learned that in my industry just those things alone will put you in a league above the rest simply because people are so used to lack luster service when it comes to digital design.

Starting off as a graphic designer I would see a lot when working with businesses. Especially the big need for brand development and strategy. I started to see that most people needed a lot more than just an ad or email campaign. So I pivoted my business to cover brand strategy and development.

As time went on it seemed like more and more “creative agencies” were popping up. I’m the type of person that loves to explore new lanes and opportunities so I looked at this as a perfect opportunity to pivot again. I then branched off into business and brand management which is what I’m currently doing.

I also am a girl gang leader through my platform Be Femme Finesse that I turned into a non-profit. Through the platform I feature dope women, host events and giveaway self-care boxes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So first of all I am a YELP Elite. That means I spend a lot of time exploring new places for good eats and settings. The first thing I would do if a friend was visiting the area is whisk them away to Toronto because I feel like there a lot more to do there and it’s only about 1.5 hours away. I used to love driving down on weekends to go to this buffet downtown called Hot House. They had the freshest food and would have live music playing on most occasions. Then I would head down to the water to enjoy one of their many boat tours. These are usually so relaxing and interesting because you learn something new each time. Then of course, shopping because it’s a must.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to the future me. Here I am walking into new spaces, learning new things, but absolutely sure of the outcome, I will be successful.
