We had the good fortune of connecting with Allan DallaTorre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allan, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
“Regardless of how much you plan ahead or what you wish for, failure is an inevitable part of anyone’s career journey and I think that’s been one
of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned along my own professional
path.
You can draw new knowledge from every failure, but it’s also important
not to let setbacks define you. In retrospect, failing a few times in the
past myself has allowed me to refine my business plan.
If I had to give advice, I’d be inclined to say don’t be afraid to take risks
and fail; learn from the experience and try again. Many successful
people initially fall short of what they set out to accomplish, and that is
precisely what pushed them to continue and eventually succeed.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In Hollywood, the events industry is generally a competitive field to work in. People come from a wide range of disciplines. I received my training
as a residential interior designer, for example, but found my professional
calling in event productions. From a young age, I always knew I wanted to
do something that would that allow me to decorate and transform
different environments. Hosting parties is something that’s simply in my
DNA.
What makes me different is that I bring a diverse, modern perspective to
my projects from a socioeconomic, cultural, and LGBT vantage point,
which allows me to serve a truly wide range of people and celebrations.
Also, I’m specialized in branding using only LED battery powered lighting that
makes for efficient installations. I pride myself in my craft and in
producing unique spaces that set the mood and create Instagrammble
experiences.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
“I grew up in Los Angeles and some of my favorite neighborhoods include DTLA, Hollywood and the beach.
If we were to head downtown, I’d take you to Olvera Street where we
could get taquitos at Cielito Lindo. We might follow this with a walk up Grand Avenue to see some architectural marvels like the Walt Disney
Concert Hall, The Broad and LACMA museums, not to mention the
offices of LA Events, of course. For some nighttime fun, I would take
you for drinks at the Biltmore followed by dancing at an LGBTQ club
called the Precinct.
During the week, we could play tennis at the Vermont Canyon Tennis
Center and take a hike to the top of Mt. Hollywood in Griffith park—an
absolute must when you’re in LA.
Next on our list would be Hollywood for some fashion and home decor
shopping in the We-Ho design district around Melrose and Beverly Blvd.
A decadent lunch at Botega Louie in Boystown would be perfect after
that—they have a gorgeous patisserie and restaurant.
Finally, over on the Westside I’d want to take you to go see the
Palisades of Santa Monica, and the pier, promenade and canals of
Venice Beach. Sunset cocktails from the rooftop of Hotel Erwin would be the
perfect way to end the day.”

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
“Nobody is more deserving of a shoutout than my two brothers, Ronald and Michael DallaTorre. I would not be here without their
encouragement and active participation in the development of LA
Events. Ronald is a senior machine technician and Mike is a director of
photography in the movie industry. As a team, we possess the
necessary combination of creative and technical expertise to run a
company like LA Event Lighting. THANK YOU for being the most amazing
brothers a guy could have!”
