We had the good fortune of connecting with Allen Dent and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allen, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe that taking risks is necessary in life. Risk-taking forces you out of your comfort zone and that’s where personal growth happens. I moved to California 8 years ago from Alpharetta, Georgia. I did not have any family or friends here at that time. The first few months were tough and I was ready to move back home. However I pushed through it and I am very happy that I did. Moving to California was the best thing I have ever done for myself. Getting to reset your life in a new state gave me a new perceptive of everything. I learned so much more about myself over the years. I definitely recommend anyone to try to leave their comfort zone and start new life in another state/country. I never realized how big the world was until I made this move. Moving here made me the man that I am today and I am thankful of all the adventures and the people I met on this journey. It was a big risk to leave my family and friends but at that time in my life it was necessary for a change.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I DJ and produce house and dance music. Honestly how I got to where I am today is persistent and dedication. The challenges I am currently overcoming the imposter syndrome feeling. Especially when you log into social media, you see other people excelling in what you want to do in life can be hard. I stopped comparing myself to others and only focused on my path; nobody else’s. Everyone’s story and how they achieve success is different. I learned I was wasting my time worrying about others. Although the journey is far from over but I am thankful of how far I came.

I want the world to know that I am a product of people always counting me out my whole life. I want show the world that if I can make my dreams to come true others can too. The idea I want to show the world is to never give up and take the necessary risks to make a dream happened. This is our one and last time on earth, why waste it on not going for what you want out of life.

Most of my life I let people tell what I can and cannot do. I wasted a huge chunk of my life because it. Once I just believed in myself everything just worked out.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my homie came to visit me I would first take them to Bacari in Silverlake. Amazing food with family style options is always the go to. Next drinks at Mama Shelter in Hollywood for some rooftop vibes. Check out if there’s any shows at the Hollywood Palladium or The Greek. Next day do a full beach day at either Manhattan or Zuma beach. Hiking at Runyon Canyon or the Culver City stairs for a nice outdoor workout. If it is Sunday go to Leimert Park Marketplace for food, shopping, and music.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wanna dedicate my shoutout to my family and friends. I am blessed to have my parents supporting me throughout this journey. They always believed in me which pushes me to achieve my goal. My sister is always there to give me advice and help me out whenever I needed it. My friends always believed in my dreams and showed support. Having a solid support system from my family and friends makes me unstoppable. They shaped me into the person I am today and I am forever thankful for them. I want to make them proud because they all mean so much to me. I also look up to family and friends. They’ve accomplished so much, it motivates me to do same.
