We had the good fortune of connecting with Alma Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alma, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
As a child i was all about the performing arts. I was in a performing arts academy where I took lessons in Singing, acting, dancing and piano. For whatever reason I decided to abandon the arts at around 10 years old and focused on school with the ultimate goal of becoming a doctor. I got my bachelor’s in Biology and after taking my MCAT, I realized medical school was not my end goal after all, so I decided to get an MBA in Healthcare administration instead. I’ve been working in the healthcare industry for the past 10 years but have always felt like a part of me was missing, or better yet “lacking”. Like most of us, I decided to pursue creative outlets during the pandemic. At first it started with taking flamenco lessons via zoom, and then moved to attending a Voice Over conference, getting headshots and signing with a few commercial agents in Florida. I thought, “wow, what else can I do with all of this? ” so I decided to look for a Healthcare job in Los Angeles that could pay my bills and housing while allowing me to pursue acting. I’ve been very fortunate that I started booking roles while being able to maintain my 9-5. It was not easy, but definitely doable. I guess to make a long story short, the reason I decided to pursue and artistic career is because I had to mature at a very young age, and the creative arts has given me a safe space to tap into my inner child and express myself freely, without judgements.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe what sets me apart from others is my unwavering capacity to reinvent myself. I have held numerous roles and have grown professionally and that’s something that I am extremely proud of. Ive learned to take “No”, as a redirection leading me to learn more and recalibrate. If there’s one thing I want others to learn from me, is to never give up on yourself. Life is not easy, and it’ll get even harder just when you are about to reach your goals . Push a little more and give it all you got. I always say that I don’t want to die without at least trying to pursue my goal of being a full time actress, the worst anyone can say is “No”, and that’s alright with me. A “No” right now is a resounding “yes” waiting to happen at another gig/job/opportunity. Keep going, work on your craft and put your best foot forward.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend were in town, I’d definitely take her or him to pasadena for ramen and dessert, silverlake for drinks, dodgers game and descanso gardens for a chill afternoon. I would also recommend Chado team room in pasadena with its lovely teas, scones and sandwiches. You can’t go wrong in Pasadena.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to Shoutout my mom for always supporting me no matter the career I wanted to pursue. She’s been my biggest cheerleader and has taught me the meaning of resilience. Anything is possible if you try. Thanks, momma.
