Meet Altun | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Altun and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Altun, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Baku, Azerbaijan. I had a wish since 2006 (I was 16 years old) to make grunge band. However, when I didn’t find other like-minded people, I decided to perform alone. There were such concerts, where I performed alone.
In October 2008 I was drafted into the army. After serving my 1.5 years in army, I returned to back to the city and finally found members for band of which I had always dreamed and in 2010 I applied for participation in Eurovision song contest selections. But in going to the final stage I failed. Finishing sixth I fell out of the race.
But that made me a bit known in a rock music scene and got show offers to play so we performed at many other concerts with my band.
In 2011 I again entered the qualifiers for the Eurovision song contest selections and this time took second place.
In 2012 I released my first demo album “Ouch”, which included 12 songs in English.
I kept playing at shows, concerts (some events like Formula 1 Baku Grand Prix 2018) and releasing singles with music videos. Then I really got tired of playing at same venues and wanted get out of the country for more opportunities and for more challenges then I decided to come to Los Angeles in 2019. I made my band here and played at some venues like Whisky A Go Go, The Viper Room and etc. I released my first debut studio album “To the Sky” on May 6, 2022. Four singles are released with music videos. Then we recorded some other new songs all live with my band together in studio on December 10, 2023 and I plan to release them sometime soon. At present, my sound is shifting into more indie rock, psychedelic rock and soft rock genres also experimenting some other genres too. And recently working on some other side projects and also on my new songs to release them soon
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I always was so passionate about sharing my emotions and feelings with people through music and shows that we play with my band. I’d try to do my best to please everyone at the shows, making sure everyone have a good time and to make them feel free and connect them with the emotions. At the beginning it was intense that I’d play more like alternative rock, grunge with more aggressive emotions but as I’m growing up or let’s say getting older I’m changing, my music is changing so I’m getting into more soft, indie, psychedelic rock music. It’s more connected with my inner world and shares deep emotions and thoughts about life. So I’m just keep making music and it changes with the flow of time to the direction where it feels more safe and free
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take them local cafe shops for branch around Venice places like Gjusta, Great White, The Butcher’s Daughter. I love bakery and coffee spots, It has specific smell and vibe in the late morning walking around them and sitting next to city and taste the quality flavors
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There a lot of people that I don’t even remember their names or remember some of their names which I don’t what to write here, I’m so thankful to anyone who helped me on my journey
