Meet Amanda de la Madriz | Life + Mindset Coach for Moms

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda de la Madriz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, how does your business help the community?
I want to create a movement where all moms truly believe that they are good parents. Amazing moms who yes, make mistakes! But who aren’t constantly trying to achieve perfection, because it results in feeling like you’re always failing. Perfection is impossible, and aside from loving and caring about your children, there really isn’t a bar for being a good parent (not really)—it’s all just a story we tell ourselves.
I want to teach all moms everywhere how to have their own backs. I help them better manage the overwhelm and burnout in their mom lives, from a place of self-love, acceptance and belief that THEY are the ones in control.
Because taking care of ourselves helps us to better take care of those around us.
Mothers are the entire heart of this world, and right now we’re struggling. And as a result, we aren’t showing up the way we want to for the next generation. It’s so important to understand, connect, and give ourselves what we need emotionally, mentally and physically on a consistent basis. To fill our lives in lots of ways so that we are not chronically stressed, dysregulated or overstimulated.
And here’s the best part—in taking care of ourselves, in taking back that control of our lives, we actually have the best chance at being the moms we want to be for our kids.
I want to help moms take back control of their lives in the same way I decided to take back control of mine…to show them that their perspective is the only thing holding them back from taking action to create the life that they really want. I want to teach them how to release the mom guilt and take better care of themselves, so that they’re in a better position to trust themselves to go after whatever it is that they desire.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Even though I became certified as a Life Coach in 2013, I decided to solely focus on being a stay at home mom when my son was born in 2016 (and then after my daughter was born in 2019). I had intended to go back to that work once my daughter started kindergarten, but in 2021 there were some changes in my husband’s career that resulted in me starting to think, “why am I waiting on someone else to create the life that I want? Why not build it myself?”
So I decided to begin the process of getting back into coaching a full two years earlier than I anticipated, but it was those thoughts that really propelled me forward into starting my own business, which is now specialized around mindset and helping mothers specifically.
Because listen, motherhood is no joke. And for me, with two babies and no outside help by 2019, I found myself constantly in a state of overwhelm and exhaustion. And then Covid hit. I would lie in bed at the end of the day and think about all the ways I messed up. I would beat myself up for being in a bad mood. And then I decided I didn’t want that for myself anymore. I was ready for a change. I wanted to feel better. I started doing the work to uncover the sources of unhappiness in my mom life, and after becoming certified through The Life Coach School, I discovered how much my mindset was affecting my life.
As a recovering perfectionist, I am really leaning into self-acceptance and real motherhood. Yes, there is an opportunity to feel better, but it’s still okay to have bad days. To need a break. To order pizza because you cannot manage cooking tonight. But in order to achieve a greater balance, it all goes back to accepting ourselves and believing that we are enough. We are not broken. We don’t have all the answers, but no one does. We can stop being so hard on ourselves, and I know exactly how to help.
My work is all about using perspective to help coach moms through things like mom guilt, self prioritization and overwhelm so that they can take back control of their mom lives and feel better. I get so jazzed about being able to show my clients just how much control they actually have over their lives. This magic combo of building self-trust and creating awareness around the power of our perspective is what I believe really creates lasting changes for my clients. Imagine—you could stop judging yourself all the time, AND create the life that you want in the process?! Who wouldn’t want that!?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, I have a running list 😉 LA is not necessarily the easiest city to appreciate as a tourist, but I’ve been here for almost 12 years now and I absolutely love it. As a mom of course all my spots are kid-friendly, and my first place to start (assuming it’s not 100 degrees out) is in San Marino. My favorite place in LA is the Huntington Botanical Garden, and right next door is Lacy Park if there’s time (but honestly the Huntington is a full day on its own). We’d also visit the Getty Center, and most of the time just visiting the grounds is enough of an outing! In terms of food I always take guests out to Terra at Eataly (amazing food and views), and then it’s fun to stroll around the Westfield Century City Mall…yes it’s a mall, but it’s gorgeous and the kids love running around and playing at the play park they have there. Another local spot that might not be super well-known but is fantastic is the Will Rogers State Historic Park, and honestly Temescal Canyon has really gorgeous hiking trails that make you feel like you’re not even in LA. We’d then make sure to check out the Palisades Village…great food, beautiful location, and green space for the kids to play in—a hidden gem but a spot I visit pretty much weekly. And last but not least, if folks are up for a drive, the PCH through Manhattan Beach, Hermosa, Redondo and down to Palos Verdes is #worthit. The Terranea Resort is open to the public and has amazing food and views. Plus the kids can scoot around the grounds!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The biggest shoutout for sure goes to my husband. His belief in me is absolute. This version of me that I’m working so hard to achieve, that I struggle with stepping into sometimes…he already sees me there. It’s so easy for him, that it gives me faith that I will get there. His career is incredibly demanding, but he still makes the effort to support me in my business, whether it’s running home early so I can attend a networking event or record a podcast interview, or even managing things on the weekend so that I can schedule a client call. We support each other’s dreams, and I would not be able to enjoy this stage of building my business if it weren’t for him.
