Meet Ambarish Nag | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ambarish Nag and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ambarish, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I have thought of this topic many times. In my 6 years of being a full time musician, there has been a couple of instances when I felt like giving up coz my career was not going anywhere. In those times, I asked myself if I should actually give up or keep going. Although, all of me wanted to give up, there was 1% in me that refused and that meek voice is what I followed and haven’t looked since.
If I decide to give up on my dreams, as Steve Harvey says the only guarantee is that it’s never gonna happen!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a guitarist, Independent artist & a composer. To put it in context, I am a guitar player who also happens to sing and writes songs.
I have released a full length album, music video and four singles and I am most proud of that. I am working on a couple of things that I am excited about and looking forward to! You’ll get to know about these with time.
My journey has definitely not been easy. Six years ago, I moved to LA to study music. That’s how my career as a full time musician started. I had played with bands in India prior to that but they were part time.
Most of my accomplishments happened when I was pushed outside my comfort zone. For instance, when I started composing my songs, I didn’t sing professionally. So, I started looking for people who could bring my songs to life. But when I couldn’t connect with anyone, I was forced to learn how to sing professionally and today I have a whole album out with my voice in it.
The biggest lesson was to learn to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. Another lesson that I learnt was to keep going no matter what!
A lot of people misunderstood me or told me that I wouldn’t be able to succeed but I have decided that no matter what, I shall keep going.
I want people to know that I am resilient and I work hard on my craft everyday to better myself. Whatever I have achieved in terms of what I have put out into the world or have received accolades for gives me the motivation to work harder and strive for excellence everyday, keeping in mind my dreams.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Mumbai, India now. But if I had to take a friend out for a week in LA, in no particular order, the first place I’d take him/her to is Jameson’s Irish Pub on Hollywood Blvd to make him/her meet my friends. That place used to be a regular hangout spot.
I’d probably take him/her to see the Urban Lights, the Griffith Observatory, go to The Grove for a shopping and dining spree.
I’d take him/her on a hike to both Runyan Canyon and to the Hollywood sign.
Do all Hollywood tourist things. Have Quesadilla at my favourite Mexican food truck on Hollywood Blvd.
Pub hop in West Hollywood for some amazing live music and have tacos at Pink Tacos.
Maybe a concert at ‘The Wiltern’ or ‘Hollywood Bowl’ or ‘The Forum’.
I’ll take him/her to Venice beach one day and to Malibu beach another.
Making an Itinerary out of this will happen only when a friend visits me when I’m in LA.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely! Books have played a huge role in shaping myself as a person which then branches out to my work.
Adding on, I believe that the right book finds you when you need it the most.
A couple of books I’d like to give a shoutout to are, ‘The Monk who sold his Ferrari’ by Robin Sharma, ‘Win you inner battles’ by Darius Foroux and ‘Master your emotions’ by Thibaut Meurisse.
Apart from these books, I’d also like to give a shoutout to my family. I have a rocky relationship with them but they have stood by me at times when I needed them to and I’m grateful to them for it.
