We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber & Asia Mason and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber & Asia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
The artistic/creative career chose us. We both have always been extremely creative individuals growing up. We continue to embrace our inner child and allow our imagination to push and fuel our creative careers. We create art because be believe we are reflections of the divine creator which means it is our birth right to create. To us, being an artist is one of the most valuable gifts a person can possesses. When you leave this lifetime your art work is what you’re going to be remembered by. Your art work symbolizes what value you’ve added and contributed to the world. Analyzing the Egyptian hieroglyphics walls that our ancestors left for us to use as a sense of guidance for humanity to learn from, is what we inspire our art work to reflect, so we can make a positive impact in the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are Models, Creative directors, Film makers, hairstylist, Entrepreneurs, Founders of a women empowerment organization and model coaches. Something that sets us apart from others is our creative process. While we are creating we let our imagination take over. We are guided by our ancestors and create art that typically tells a story that is honoring and encouraging individuals to return back their true self in order to find the true power that lies within. For example, when it comes to modeling we honor the art of body movement and the energy that is being exude in order to tell a story through a photo. For us, being able to have the ability to inspire the masses to through creating art is what we feel is our soul purpose. Growing up my twin sister and I has always been extremely creative individuals and always knew we want to make a positive impact in the world and focus our art work on healing ourselves in others in our community. The transformational shift all started when we were 13 years and experienced a spiritual awakening within. We both cut of our relaxed hair and started wearing our natural hair. With doing so we experienced a shift in our mental consciousness. We began moving in a way of life differently and started to truly honor and fell in love with ourselves more and more. Do to how much we felt like we have evolved and grew throughout the years we felt called by the age of 17 years old to start a women empowerment organization at our high school called Queens of Klein Forest. Our organization was life changing for us and every young women in the club. With going to an all minority school we wanted to make sure young women had a safe space to go and heal and feel comfortable about telling their personal stories and learning from other women in order to grow. We curated workshops that allowed young women to self reflect and to release any tension or stress they may have embodied within and showed them how to turn their pain into power. Queens of Klein Forest became a very impactful organization for all women in the school and eventually grew into other schools in our district. Fast forward to 2021, Kings of Klein forest was created for young men which now gives them a platform to heal and become more entuned with themselves while imbedding morals and values into young kings on campus. Now in the year 2022 we have created a short film called ” Leaders of the Nu World” that we released in April of this year that was inspired by the Solange album “When I Get Home”. The short film captives on the beauty of black people and the power when all obtain within ourselves and encourage the audience to return back to self in order to seek a better life experience. Leaders of the Nu World has became a success! We recently won 1st place at the Afro Fusion Film Festival in June and also had the great honor to premier our short film at Texas Southern University. Leaders of the Nu World was also published in 4 magazines this year! Which also highlighted my other art work (Asia Mason) which is hairstyling. This year alone I had the opportunity to work with “Beats by Dre” for their new “Fit Pro True Wireless earbuds”. As well as both of us having the opportunity to be the hairstylist and models for the Nike 40th anniversary of air force ones Houston, Tx tribute. Analyzing our success and accomplishments that we achieved at the age of 21 years old we have learned throughout our journey is to be patience with yourself. Understanding that giving up is not an option, understanding the power of the tonuge and only speaking things that we wanted to see manifest into our reality into existence. and lastly be intentional with the art you are creating. In closing, we want the world to know that YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO! Always remember the power of you and never dim your light to make others feel comfortable. Love yourself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If we had the opportunity to curate a Houston tour for a friend we would Firstly, take them down Almeda road to visit the African markets and buy essential self care items, along with stopping by some black owned vegan restaurants on the strip. Next, we would go visit the art district downtown and explore the Houston fine arts museum and other museums in the district. After, we would stop by Herman park and immerse and nature and just enjoy the vibes by the water and trees. Lastly, we would end the night eating dinner at Mo betta Brews vegan restaurant downtown eating and drinking great vegan food while vibin to great neo soul and R&B music.
