We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Earl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting “Just Winging It” was me getting back to where I came from. It’s imperative to know that I started making hot wings with my mom as a 12 year old kid in Memphis, TN. My mom was the candy lady and wings was her biggest seller. So this is me paying homage to her and also, bringing that southern hospitality and flavor to the West Coast.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Just Winging It was just an idea 2 years ago and we’ve been in business 1 year and we are growing so much. We are here today because of the hard work that we have put in and the mentorship from family, friends and colleagues. This has not been an easy road because I took a non-traditional route and anyone will tell you if you can survive the first year of business, you are on track to being successful. I would tell someone to take a moment and put together your business plan and create a project outline so you can keep up with projects and finances. I want the world to know that we have come so far and that we are here for the long haul.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the beach for one. The beach is my go to place when I need to calm my mind. If there is a festival like Hot Water Cornbread, I would take them there because you’re going to eat good and have a good time. Lastly, you have to go on a Hollywood tour. That’s a traditional tourist thing to do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my mom as her guidance and skills are why I am where I am today. My mom started me off in the kitchen at 8 years old and through everything thing that has transpired in life, I’m right back where I started and she’s still with me and guiding me through everything. Also, I want to shoutout my team, family and friends that have given me advice regarding business and recipe advice.
