We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Kobel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, why did you pursue a creative career?
I would say it’s because I don’t feel grounded in reality. My entire life has been one of fantasy and escapism. My hope lives in dreams, my heart belongs to heaven and my soul lives among the stars.
Life would be impossible were it not for asylum in the arts.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
How I came to be where I am is a mystery to me. I’m too timid to force my way into the art field, I’m too unassuming to push or be seen.

It may sound incredibly strange but I feel like love has been behind everything. Those who seek a kindred spirit find their way to my little corner and I am humbled every moment along the way.

A great lesson to learn is this: Life is fleeting. It’s gone in just a moment. Almost every important person in my life has passed away, and they were all far too young. They’ve taught me to either chase after what you want, exist where you are now or simply drift into the ether.
But no matter what, be confident with your decision. Never stop dreaming, never stop dancing in the rain, never stop taking in the beauty that surrounds you even in your darkest moment.

What I want people know know about me is pretty simple. My work is about love and life and death.
I hope when people see my work, they view it as a poem.
A heart laid bare in majesty.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am quite a shy introvert with a habit for history. I would love to show so many of the different architecture styles to Los Angeles. L.A. has some pretty cool vintage stores: Los Feliz is home to many. I’d start there.
For book stores I love going to Kinokuniya, Book Soup, The Last Bookstore, The Iliad.
For great drinks: If you love Whiskey, Seven Grand. For Japanese Whiskey, Wolf & Crane. Wally’s is perfect for a great Barolo.
My favorite part about L.A. is that almost all bands play here be it in a small venue or a large stadium. And that in itself is why I love this city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Music, Books, Art. Music is the one true nourishment. Books are solace. Art is my currency.
